Sharron Angle Was Once a Registered Democrat
CBS News ^ | June 16, 2010 | Stephanie Condon

Democrats and liberal bloggers continue to search for surprising facts about Tea Party-backed Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle, but the Associated Press has uncovered one fact the left may not have anticipated: Angle was once a registered Democrat and worked to elect a Democratic politician in Nevada.

Rather than giving any indication of her ideological beliefs, however, that fact may simply show her history of independence from the Republican party. In the 1990's, she belonged to a conservative third party. Angle won the Nevada GOP Senate primary this month, knocking out the establishment candidate to take on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

While Angle alluded to conservative hero President Ronald Reagan the night she won the primary, she in fact was a registered Democrat during part of his presidency. Records show, the AP reports, that Angle was a registered Republican until 1984, when she switched to the Democratic party. She stayed a Democrat at least through March, 1988.

Campaign spokesman Jerry Stacy told the AP Angle switched parties to work for a conservative Democrat running for state Senate, but she voted for Reagan in both 1980 and 1984.

"She's always been conservative," Stacy said. "She switched parties to help run the (Democrat's) campaign."

In 1992, Angle helped resurrect the Independent American Party, the Wall Street Journal reported. The party reportedly favors low taxes and opposes gun control, illegal immigration, abortion, gay rights and "global government." Angle rejoined the Republicans in 1997.

The candidate in Washington this week to meet with Republican Party officials and conservative activists, but she has taken some heat for avoiding reporters.

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas) said that within weeks, reporters will have "complete, 100 percent access" to Angle, the Washington Post reports.

"I think she needs to get staffed up and prepared," he said. "The kind of scrutiny candidates undergo in a general-election race like this is far different than virtually anybody's been through before, and I just think it's a matter of due diligence and being prepared."

I think you missed this lady talking on TV the other day. NO handlers, no lawyers... just she and her husband.

She comes from a background of experience....AS a Mom who fought and won against the school boards to get her kids home schooled....

She’s no dummy, and Reid will soon realize that he’s taken on someone who is not stupid....

Unravel...? Do your homework before making a dumb statement like that...

Reagan was once a Democrat also. We have all made some foolish decisions in our youth.

That supe was the best of the last 5 we have had. He was competent, financially conservative, and never got touched by the truly petty corruption and womanizing that got the other 4. He lost re-election because he made the job a respectable position and more prominent people than before ran for it. The guy is black and once an elective position becomes prestigious a black local candidate will get only black votes here. It is a shame. Local whites will vote for Alan Watts or Barry Soetoro, though.

Being a former democrat is like being a recovering drunk. You've been through it, you aren't proud of it, don't want to do it again, and don't want to see anyone else do it to themselves.

To all Registered Democrats, there is a cure, seek help immediately.

Yes, we also help elect conservative candidates. Which you are not doing by constantly focusing on how your preferred candidate did not win.

Polls have her leading Reid by a comfortable margin. Before the primary she polled better then Tarkanian or Lowden against Reid.

We all have opinions. Some are right and some are wrong. You have no evidence to support your claim here.

Then a nice man named Easter Thomas gave me "the test," which opened my self-described liberal eyes to the fact that I was actually a conservative.

What is this "test"? It sounds like a useful tool.

I’ve followed this race closely. She’s a poor candidate, and she’s hiding from the media - has been for a week before the election. She’s out of her league.

...I don’t think I’m constantly focusing on it. I read an article and gave my opinion on the subject, that’s all. Sometimes people with differing opinions have something to contribute too - whether or not any particular person agrees with it.

Really?
http://www.lvrj.com/news/angle-takes-lead-in-gop-primary-95716309.html

June 6, 2010 -"Continuing her stunning rise, Sharron Angle has shot into a clear lead in the U.S. Senate Republican primary, according to a new poll for the Las Vegas Review-Journal that shows the Tea Party favorite heading toward likely victory Tuesday. But the survey also found that if the general election were held today, Danny Tarkanian would have a slightly better chance than Angle to beat Democratic incumbent Harry Reid."

Well, it’s been a loooong time, but first he asked me my political persuasion, and I said “liberal” because liberal gooood, not-liberal baaaaad.

When he realized that I was adrift, he followed up with some questions about whether I agreed that some people should be forced to support others, about the natures of charity, freedom, and government power, and about morals and values.

Somehow I gave all the right answers despite my upbringing, and he announced that I was a conservative.

I wrestled with that for a while but finally realized that he was right. I started paying attention, and I could hear the lies. They’ve been lying to us and stealing elections for a very long time.
