Limbaugh bashes GOP for Barton response Posted: June 21st, 2010 04:05 PM ET
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
(CNN) Conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh is taking aim at Republican leaders for rushing to demand Texas Rep. Joe Barton retract his controversial apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward during last week's congressional hearing.
On his radio show Monday, Limbaugh suggested the GOP leadership likely agrees with Barton's sentiments, but are driven by recent national polls which suggest the majority of Americans support President Barack Obama's push for BP to set aside $20 billion for future liability claims.
"It was a shakedown pure and simple," said Limbaugh, echoing the words for which Barton later apologized. "And somebody had the audacity to call it what it was and now everybody's running for the hills."
"All you have to do is look at the polling," Limbaugh continued. "We're talking about Republicans inside the beltway. All you have to do is look at the polling data and media coverage and find out what they are going to do."

LMAO!!
All Texas politicians understand the importance of the oil business and get donations from the industry...not shakedown money as you yankee's call it.....if you pulled your head out of the sand for a moment...that is what Barton was trying to do....keep zero and his minions from stealing 20 billion dollars from the American people!
You, sir, are on a roll!
You want to win what? If we win with people who are afraid to tell the truth , what have we won?
Barton is right, Rush is right.
Boehner and the neo-Statists are WRONG.
Boehner does NOT deserve to lead anything but a group of kindergarteners on a walk through the Capitol building.
What Joe Barton said was the truth. The $20 billion IS a shakedown.
Ah we told the truth about Obama and he still won.
Barton was correct. Reactions like this from the Republicans are a huge reason that the Tea Party came into being.
So, BP was essentially forced to drill 35,000 foot down offshore.
Library user, you need to find another library to get your information from... where did you get 35,000 ft from?
You need to be more careful with your data, unless you are a LIBERAL/DEMORAT, then you do not have to worry about FACT, as long as you feel good about what you are posting.
Barton called it. It was/is a shakedown. Pure and simple. Saying otherwise just shows a lack of backbone and/or corruption. BP is no hero, but that doesn’t nullify calling a spade a spade. (And, no, that’s NOT a racial slur.)
“Interestingly enough the escrow account was suggested by president Soros and the Center for American progress on May 3rd.”
I also watched Glenn Beck today. Great show.
My finger bumped the “3” key. I meant 5,000.
“Ah we told the truth about Obama and he still won.”
We are going after the wrong people. We should be boycotting the MSM and sending letters to companies who advertise stating we will no longer buy their products if they advertise.
It is the MSM that created Obama. And it is the MSM that protects him.
Do you think maybe that obamma doing nothing is part of the plan of eventually insisting on a shakedown of BP?
What Barton said wasnt popular, and it sure wouldnt win friends at a time that everyone is demonizing BP, but on principle he is right.
They had a right to due process.
Bingo!
100% dead on right! Rush got it and so did you! Yet another reason I’m NOT a Republican.
And by the way, this $20 billion slush fund that’s supposed to be handled by an “independent 3rd party” — WHEN DID KENNETH FIENBERG, OBAMA’S PAY CZAR, BECOME AN INDEPENDENT 3RD PARTY!?!?!
We have an old saying where I come from: “Don’t pee down my back and tell me it’s raining...”
What he said.
This is f-ing tyranny of the 1st degree. Little Mussolini hard at work.
A good one Phil.
Limbaugh will probably lose some listeners in our area. Take that for what you will.
I don’t think people who don’t have the gun of this spill cocked directly at them and their way of life realize just how scarring an event this is already been.
We’re not just talking about beach cleanup here. We are talking about the very possible destruction of a way of life that has existed for 300 years and a situation which, if we never recover from it, will probably force the lions share of people down here to leave and never come back, a transition of the population not seen since the Great Migration of the blacks 100 years ago.
That’s why if you’re not from the part of the world that’s dealing with the first hand you really have no business commenting on it because you don’t realize what’s at stake.
As for McConnell, he showed real promise until he actually got the job.
New Congressional majority means nothing with the same old leadership.
