Breaking: General Stanley McChrystal tenders his resignation

A senior Capitol Hill source tells me that General Stanley McChrystal had tendered his resignation to President Barack Obama and that the White House is actively discussing a replacement who could be quickly confirmed by the Senate.

The source said that among the names being touted as possible successors are General James Mattis, the outgoing head of the US Joint Forces Command and due to retire after being passed over as US Marine Corps commander, and Lieutenant General William Caldwell, commander of Nato’s Training Mission in Afghanistan.

Of course, offering to resign is not the same as actually resigning and it remains to be seen whether Mr Obama will accept the resignation.

"Given his record, I simply am having a difficult time reconciling his actions."

There's part of his record I think you may be glossing over...Keep in mind that as commander of JSOC, McChrystal oversaw PSYOPS and Civila Affairs; he's no stranger to the manipulation and control of information at the strategic level. I suspect McChrystal's choice of venue and the orchestrated "slips" were all quite deliberate, and Rolling Stone in fact got used. If McChrystal would have sounded off on Fox, WSJ, National Review, etc. it all would have been written off as right wing rantings. Using RS as his vector makes it virtually impossible for the left, and the MSM to ignore. I'm not sure what McChrystal's next move(s) might be, but it ought to be interesting to watch.

“If Mattis takes it, that would be great. He ain’t no perfumed prince, that is a fact.”

Agreed, but how long before Mattis does the same thing as McChrystal? Mattis is not one to sit down and be dressed down by the likes of Obamao.

He is going to tell him we are either in it to win it or let me bring our boys home. And we all know that Obamao will NOT allow an out and out victory.

Is it .... even remotely possible that this is all being intentionally orchestrated by the Chicago 3 Stooges - Barry, Rahm & Baghdad Bob, who surely realize that ALL the fringe far lefties are FURIOUS that their 'hero' hasn't ended the war in Afghanistan?

Perhaps RS is willingly in this game along with the general & the 3 stooges????

Obama voter (inside a box)

______________________________

IMHO, that is all there is to it. McChrystal was unable to identify a mortal enemy of this country.

All this snafu about who said what about whom means squat. Failure. That is what to expect from Obama, and Obama voters.

It doesn’t matter a hill of beans if he is canned or not. Obama will replace him with another Obama voter who will implement Obama’s plans for further destruction of the military.

Obama has no intention of winning the war in Afghanistan. He wants the US military humiliated and weakened. This way he can blame the withdrawal and disgrace on the military.

Apparently the reporter was given access to McChrystal for 30 days. IIRC that is unprecedented.

According to a post at BLACKFIVE, the reporter was originally only supposed to be there for 2 days but the Icelandic volcano eruption extended his visit for a few more weeks.

A military coup?

Nah.

Civilian control of the military is essential to our Republic.

In light of the thread McChrystal denies offering to resign perhaps the title should be updated?

They go through what they call ‘Charm School” when they make the 1st star.

This was all calculated!

I agree. And experts agree that Gen. McChrystal is really the ONLY person with the expertise to lead the Kandahar Offensive.

So the question is: Would Gen. McChrystal sabotage his own Kandahar Offensive?

YES HE WOULD, if it was the ONLY way to STOP Obama’s overall “war plan”, fighting with HALF the troops that Gen. McChrystal requested last Fall.

A lot of American soldiers would likely DIE because they don't have overwhelming force for the Kandahar Offensive, and I most-certainly can see Gen. McChrystal sacrificing his career to save the lives of his troops.

I am wondering about the backstory myself. If this was calculated on McChrystal’s part, what was going on behind the scenes which would cause McChrystal to force his hand?

very interesting post.

I haven’t really had a clue as to what to think of this general.

When I read he was an alleged Obama-voter my regard for him dropped considerably.

But if what you say is true - this man is a real hero.

And maybe that “voted for Obama” thing was just thrown out there to the reporters for affect?

Really amazing circumstances that resulted in this article. The background on author Michael Hastings (courtesy of FReeper kabar) only adds to the "perfect storm" characteristics of this entire story.

I don't buy it. The volcano extended his stay for 28 days???

Even if that is true, why was he given access to McChrystal for that extended stay? Why wasn't he sitting in the airport waiting for a flight with the rest of the civilians? Why didn't he catch a military transport flight?

Wild rumors fly. Granny thinks it is a plot to divert from B.H. Obama’s terrible mishandling of the oil spill that has his supporters dumping him. (Note: I disagree)

Hard to blame him. Working for that marxist quisling had to be taxing.

Very true.Members of our Armed Forces...including senior members...know that Hussein holds them in utter contempt. And they return the favor...in spades (no pun intended).

But the General had to expect this.If there's one thing Hussein won't tolerate is a "diversity of opinions" among his subordinates.
