*snip*

This morning the President accepted my resignation as Commander of U.S. and NATO Coalition Forces in Afghanistan.

I strongly support the President's strategy in Afghanistan and am deeply committed to our coalition forces, our partner nations, and the Afghan people. It was out of respect for this commitment — and a desire to see the mission succeed — that I tendered my resignation.

No, because I believe the reason McC has done this is because under the circumstances, this war cannot be won. OK, well, let Petraeus lose it. At least he has a victory under his belt in Iraq, so he’ll be 1-1. The trouble is, counter-insurgency doesn’t work when you can’t relentlessly hound the insurgents while making friends with the locals. IOW, when the troops have their hands tied. I don’t want more troops to die, but there’s no way we’re winning while this moron sits in the white hut. He would not allow it any more than he’s allowing the gulf to be cleaned up, It’s like he WANTS to fail.

Let the record show that this is the SECOND war-time general this CIC has fired.

As for McChrystal - I hope he fades away. I cannot forgive ANYONE who voted for this usurper call Obama.

I missed the whole debacle - the entire unfolding of the ‘development’ so from my view, I do not think the general was duped by the reporter -— I think he said precisely what he wanted to relate.

Now, I think he ought to retire and when the time is right, he should write his own book about the disgraceful, incompentent Obama and the stupid idiots that voted him into office, including the general himself if indeed he actually voted for him. McCrystal sure must hate McCain to have voted for Obama...lol...and his opinion of the senator might make for some good reading also.

You are dreaming irrational dreams.

Nothing can or will happen for the good until the ROE permit killing people and not worrying about collateral damage.

The troops must be allowed to kill and blow things up. Until that happens and it won’t, there will be stalemate or loss.

I would bet he would hate anything to do with politics.
Just can’t imagine him in all the political manueverings if he so hated meeting with the ambassador and the “Gucci” functions.

He is pure military.

I can’t help but be amused that Obama had to turn to the left’s despised “Genl BetrayUs” in his hour of need.

"Unfortunately the choice of a military vocation does not a statesman make. :(

Personally I feel that it is one's moral convictions that determine one's statesmanship. Washington, Madison and Jefferson certainly stated as much.

My son, now retired officer, was as conservative as they come, but once sworn in, officially stopped having any political opinions at all. He was totally focused on his task of earning the respect of his troops, and carrying out the orders of his superiors.

To this day, he avoids political discussions. But, he did try to reassure me after I was weeping over the last election, that he hoped Obama’s damage would be quickly corrected.

Please consider that many officers are so focused on the task in front of them that they don’t spend much time watching tv, reading the web, or following politics stateside.

I would suspect McChrystal was in that category, and trusted the country he serves to nominate a qualified candidate. Maybe he had no idea what an empty suit managed to get the nomination? Or all he got was the glowing MSM headlines from the NYTimes?

You would be surprised:
Mullen is a “Catholic” but is supporting Bamster in DADT overthrow...
A number of retired flag and general officers (like Adms Larson and Zumwalt) have “come out of the closet” and declared themselves big libs....as many of their wives have secretly been...
like Laura Bush and Cindy McCain...a real shame....

The policy is idiotic as far as this soldier is concerned.

However, maybe McChrystal wants out before Bammy GAYS up the military!!

Well, General Petraeus made clear that wasn't a supporter of "Don't ask; don't tell," so it looks like "Bammy" will get his wish.

Michael Yon is NO judge of what the troops think. McChrystal was very much liked by his command— want to know why? Because he put his own boots on the ground, all the time and in firezones and night patrols. He frequently could be found “putting his knee down” next to a soldier in combat. That is the definition of leadership- leading by example and walking the ground. Taking nothing away from Petraeus, since the libs used to call him “betray us”, and obama trashed him in the Senate- Petraeus advocated counterinsurgency (COIN). McChrystal directed for 6 years the US worldwide special operations warriors, Joint Special Operations Command, JSOC. Michael Yon is a pretty poor judge of leadership, and he might be refusing to embed because he’s scared of seeing real action.

"What military officer in his right mind would do such an idiotic thing?"

The "question" is the "answer"!
