A suspected tornado tore through Connecticut's largest city Thursday a rare occurrence in the state toppling trees and power lines and collapsing a building as a powerful line of storms swept across parts of the Northeast. Remarkably, no serious injuries were reported.
Hundreds of bricks shook loose from buildings, trees split in half and crushed cars, and a billboard hung precariously several stories up over Main Street. Rescuers searched what was left of a collapsed building before determining no one was inside.
The office of Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch declared a state of emergency after the fast-moving system of wind and rain.

Prayers going out to the 'Nutmeg' State.
Twister ping.
*ping* - tornado verified.
If it’s full of nothing but white people, Obama will be sure to ignore it as a crisis. See Nashville flooding and Midwest winter storms for examples.
Er, they’re talking about Bridgeport. There do seem to be a surprising number of white people still living there, but they do not dominate the town.
Sorry, but you've obviously never been to Bridgeport... or not at least, since the 1960's.
It's only got a population of 130,000 or so, but it's a mini-ghetto.
The last time I was there, the genius Democrats who ran the place (into the ground) thought that putting barriers in the streets (concrete) to impede traffic would stop drive-by shootings.
Pure genius.
Good roads were obviously the problem.
Ex-mayor Mandanici once called Bridgeport "The Armpit of America".
Bridgeport was once an industrial powerhouse with companies such as Brideport Brass, Carpenter Steel, Raybestos, Avco Lycoming, Brideport Machine, Acme Shear, AGI Rubber, Frisbee and other world-beating companies...
Democrats, unions and the usual suspects soon fixed that.
Suspected?
WTF?
Is this because it hasn’t been formally charged or convicted?
Or maybe it wasn’t a tornado. Maybe it was a horde of hypersonic rampaging chipmunks!!!
It’s too early in the day to get drunk, I’m too old to cry...
I think I will just go beat my head against the office lockers for a while.
Yes, ‘suspected’ tornado - we wouldn’t want it to sue the newspaper for drawing conclusions too soon! The (alleged, suspect) tornado must have a fair day in court!!!
Weird - an unusual place for tornadoes. Which translates into less preparedness. I’m glad to hear there were no serious injuries.
