EPA overturns 16-year-old Texas permit program

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday officially overturned a 16-year-old Texas air permitting program it says violates the Clean Air Act, leaving some of the country's largest refineries in a state of limbo.

The move comes after years of backdoor bickering, negotiations and public arguments between the EPA and Texas. The argument recently escalated from a battle over environmental issues into a heated political dispute over states' rights.

Gov. Rick Perry has been using it to drive home his contention that President Barack Obama's administration is overreaching, saying in a statement Wednesday that "Texas will continue to fight this federal takeover of a successful state program."

The EPA's decision, announced in a statement, will force some 125 refineries and petrochemical plants to invest millions of dollars to get new permits. Many of the plants may also have to invest in updates to comply with federal regulations.

I have a better idea. How about we just get it overwith and secede already?

This is not the last time something like this is going to happen. Obama and his federal butt-boys are just going to keep pushing and pushing and pushing until somebody finally has to just say “NO”. It's got to happen sooner or later. It might as well be now.

"before Kagan is sworn in"

Makes no difference. The 2007 SCOTUS decision on new source revue was 9-0.

Looks like Abbott will have to file another lawsuit against the EPA and stop more BS from this illegal administration...

Our idiots in Washington have, again, hit a killer bee hive with a baseball bat. The results in November are not going to look pretty for them.

Nope. I’m going to hold my nose and vote for Rick Perry, since the rational alternatives are worse.

Governor isn't the only race on the ballot. Many of us who are fed up with RINOs and will refrain from voting in those races in the general elections.

There will be other candidates worth voting for as well as ballot measures.

Ricardo Perry can go to hell, I'll just skip that race, and will cheerfully continue skipping until the GOP finally gets with the program, or a serious conservative party emerges.

Keep it up!! That’s all I can say.

In the not so far future, a bean counter at the EPA (in Washington DC), will get a letter from a factory manager in Texas saying something to the effect:

“With all due respect, we are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Please address all correspondence to: State of Texas, Department of Environmental Protection”

...and so begins the long road to independence.
