Bar Association, Civil Liberty Groups Team Up to Challenge Arizona's Immigration Law
FoxNews ^ | 7-1-10 | unattributed

The American Bar Association on Thursday denounced Arizona's strict new immigration law as racist and unconstitutional as they joined a lawsuit seeking to derail implementation of the measure that is set to take effect at the end of this month.

The association is teaming up with the ACLU and a coalition of civil rights groups who filed a class-action lawsuit against Arizona in May, contending that the new law invites racial profiling, violates the First Amendment and interferes with federal law.

"While the ABA typically files amicus briefs only in the highest federal or state court that will consider a matter, the ABA believes the issues before this court are of such significance to the American people and the practice of law that they must be addressed at this stage of the proceedings," the association said in the brief.

The law makes illegal immigration a state crime and allows local law enforcement to question people about their immigration status and arrest them if they can't provide proper documentation.

The association argued that if the law is implemented, it will promote racial profiling, lead to unlawful and unreasonable detentions and cause increased burdens and new obligations for the state's indigent defense system, courts and prosecutors.

Supporters of the law deny that it will lead to racial profiling and argue that Arizona is simply enforcing federal law.

But the federal government is also suing Arizona as President Obama presses lawmakers to pass a comprehensive immigration overhaul ...

Do you recall when this AZ was passed, we had a freeper (I use the term very loosely) who insisted AZ couldn’t afford it,it was illegal, all the BS talking points and he kept talking about Arpaio being sued by other state bureacrats?

WELL...it’s not all that poster claimed...here’s the full story:

Liberal Activist Judges in Arizona Allow Fraud on the Taxpayers
By Andrew Thomas, on June 30th, 2010
Maricopa County officials have voted to retain a mediator to approve payouts to themselves of frivolous claims against Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former County Attorney Andrew Thomas. Such blatant self-dealing by government officials was made possible by Arizona’s judiciary – including some of the judges now seeking millions of dollars in greedy, undeserved payouts. “I am tired of this topic and am ready to just move to Montana on 150 acres with a lot of guns and a summer/fall garden.

Live my last years with dogs and cows, LET THE CITIES ROT UNDER MEXICAN RULE.”

Yes, well, that’s what I thought when I moved on my mountain away from everyone....

Now there are Mexican drug cartels at war with each other over territory to grow their dope plantations. And they’re armed.
Like Arizona, here in No. Calif./So Oregon we are told to STAY OUT OF THE WOODS. Last summer one group of Mexican aliens drug growers burned down 88,000 acres in the LaBrea fire.

There’s no where to hide from this.

Photos etc. here:

There’s a way to stop this, immediately and effectively. The U.S. government just has to be willing to do it.

There’s so much money to be made in illegal drugs. One thing to focus on would be the role some banks are playing in laundering this money.

"Bar" is old Anglo-Saxon English for a gate. As in, "bar the door", and the kind of "bars" used in "barriers" at e.g. toll booths.

There were supposedly bars at the entrances of the English court district in London. Persons granted free entry are "barristers". Etc. and so on.

The American Bar Association is NOT an official licensing body. In fact, they should be required to list the fact they are a voluntary organization and do no issue licenses to practice law.

(surprised no state has done this)

Most lawyers are NOT members of the ABA and the ABA does not represent most lawyers.

The PDF you link is a load of garbarge by some conspiracy kook.

you forget we are not in england, there are no powdered wigs, and the “esq” is not a title it is a designation of license to practice law in a specific state. ala MD or CPA.
