GALLUP : Obama Job Approval Rating Down to 38% Among Independents
Gallup ^ | 07/07/2010 | Jeffrey Jones

Overall job ratings for the president continue to be below majority level.

PRINCETON, NJ -- Thirty-eight percent of independents approve of the job Barack Obama is doing as president, the first time independent approval of Obama has dropped below 40% in a Gallup Daily tracking weekly aggregate. Meanwhile, Obama maintains the support of 81% of Democrats, and his job approval among Republicans remains low, at 12%.

These data are based on Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted the week of June 28-July 4.

Over the past year, Obama has lost support among all party groups, though the decline has been steeper among independents than among Republicans or Democrats. Today's 38% approval rating among independents is 18 percentage points lower than the 56% found July 6-12, 2009. During the same period, his support has fallen nine points among Democrats (from 90% to 81%) and eight points among Republicans (from 20% to 12%).

Overall, 46% of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing as president in the June 28-July 4 aggregate, one point above his lowest weekly average. Obama's average weekly job approval rating has not been above 50% since Feb. 8-14, though it reached the 50% mark as recently as May 3-9.

Obama is Carter 2.0

True but the country has changed a lot and is more polarized. I really feel Baraq has a solid underpinning of support from:

minorities

illegals

dead voters

union members

govt employees

Remember that nearly half now pay no income tax.

Depending on who the Republican nominee is, it could be a Tea Party candidate.

Absolutely correct.

2012 will not be a repeat of 1996 and here is why.

To start with Obama is a true ideologue while Bill Clinton was an amoral political opportunists. Bill Clinton had some hard headed political realists advising him, Obama is surrounded by sycophantic fellow travelers. So no “tack to the right” by Obama.

The alternative media was in its infancy in 1996. Other then Rush Limbaugh there was almost no alternative national voice to the Establishment Media. Also, the Internet was mainly a “fad” know primarily to the avate garde of the computer techie community.

The other thing to remember is the economy had significantly improved by 1996. We hit a 5.5% unemployment number in, I think, May of that year. People were feeling a lot more hopeful in 1996 then they were in 1994 so there was a “Don't rock the boat” mood with many voters.

Obama will have no such boost to help his numbers since everything they are doing in DC these days is designed to be a jobs killer

Obama is Jimmy Carter 2.0

If you support Obama and yet call yourself a Republican you need to do some deep soul searching or you are certifiable mental!

Even more so if you are a Christian. Anyone who claims to be a Christian and votes Democrat has serious issues, IMHO.

"Which means, the polls is weighted in the Dems favor." Which begs the question, why is this the case ? In fact, this seems to be the case most of the time...

I would guess that most Freepers who do get a call from a pollster simply hang up. Conservatives have real lives and do something productive with their time, so they are unwilling to spend 10-15 minutes chatting with a total stranger for a survey. Libs are far more likely to talk - they don't do real work, nor do they do anywhere near as much productive work around the house. We're always underrepresented because we self-select out of these polls, even before the pollster introduces bias on purpose.

None of them started off with the super high 70%+ approval ratings that 0bozo started off with.

Where are you getting that 70%+ number?
Rasmussen never had him above 65%.

While Gallup had him at 68 and 69% during his first four days of usurpation, he has basically gone down hill from there.

I guess my response is that it’s time for the people to do penance. But, OTOH, you and I both know that he is too arrogant with false pride to do those things. He just won’t. I don’t have to burden myself with that question, this devil has answered it already.

Only Palin could do it if she went independent.

Obama would need a different personality type to pull it off.

I think we are fortunate in that our first truly damaging president is also one who is so totally out of touch with mainstream America.

Imagine if you dare a president with Obama's ideology, but Reagan's or Clinton's communication skills. About the closest we ever came to such a situation was averted when Dr. Weiss gunned down Huey Long.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. It isn’t even in the sampling. The dems were polled by a larger margin.

Obama has another problem with 2012 that Reagan and Clinton didn’t have.

Henkster, is Obama going to have issues when it comes to getting on the ballot in states that have passed laws forcing candidates to prove they are eligible to hold the office for which they are running? If he doesn't get on all the ballots, the inference alone will condemn him to a landslide.

Obama has openly declared himself to be a Christian.

No Christian would ever support the muzzies like this guy does.

Luckily, I rather doubt she would run as an independent regardless of who the GOP nominee is.

yes, democrats are very much like those in Zimbabwe and Venezuela. Their country has rotted out from under them and they still support their leaders.
