The Air Force is celebrating the arrival in Hawaii of the world's most advanced fighter jet.

Airmen draped two F-22 planes with giant maile lei after the jets landed at Hickam Field during a dedication ceremony Friday. A priest blessed the jets by scattering holy water on them with ti leaves.

The planes are the first of 20 F-22 jets the Air Force plans to base at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Oahu.

They will be assigned to the Hawaii Air National Guard's 154th Wing. Crews from both the Guard and the active duty Air Force's 15th Wing will jointly fly and maintain the planes.

The F-22s are replacing aging the Guard's fleet of aging F-15s

Staying temporarily out on west Oahu at Ko Olina. Too hot here for windows open, but still heard a lot of jet noise yesterday late afternoon. Went outside, and a F-22 is putting on an aerobatic demo right in front of the big resorts!

Cool as hell, he did the vertical loop where the thing just pivots in place, and all sorts of maneuvers. People pouring out of the condos here to watch. Very neat.

Funny, it occurred to me that more than a few liberals at the resorts were gnashing their teeth at the display by the despised military war-mongers.................

Obama canceling the F-22 is cold as ice. Hawaii getting F-22’s will ensure that Obama’s birth certificate is well-protected. /sarcasm.

I wonder how many birth certificates the F-22 could deliver in a flyover in a target area according to federal standards...

I’d love to play “Cowboys and Democrats” with one of these.

Love this plane. Got to catch it perform at an air show over the holiday.

Saw one perform at the Air Show two weeks ago. There is a pair going around putting on demonstrations. They were with the Blue Angels here and they were good but the F-22 was nothing short of amazing to watch it perform.

Don't think in many years of watching airshows ever seeing a jet fighter go vertical, slow to a stop, and do the slide backward. The prop aerobatic guys, sure, but a freaking supersonic jet fighter??

The control they must have is astounding. Imagine a F-4 trying that........LOL!

There’s a video of the F-22 at Oahu on 7-8-10...

However, this one shows the vertical climb to a stop... and other maneuvers, up close, with a good cloud background so as to gauge the motion...

They just did it again! Some drizzle and the usual low scattered clouds detracted from the view, but the wife got to see it this time, especially that astounding pivot move.

Awesome aircraft against a stunning Hawaiian sky. Seeing the F22 gives me back a little hope in the future of America.
