BAR HARBOR, Maine (AFP) – US President Barack Obama and his family packed a full day of tennis, swimming and hiking into a weekend getaway in the northeastern state of Maine on Saturday.
The Obamas began the day with rounds of tennis and some splashing in the pool, followed by lunch by the waterfront at an island hotel, according to reporters traveling with the president.
Obama, his wife Michelle and their daughters Malia and Sasha then toured a lighthouse on the southern tip of Mount Desert Island, taking along their rambunctious dog Bo.
The family mingled with visitors and admired the view from the top of the lighthouse before heading on a nearly hour-long hike along the Ship Harbor Hiking Trail.
"Good family time," said the First Lady's press secretary Katie McCormick-Lelyveld, who went along on the hike.
It was "about an hour walk with stops at the water to skip rocks and play with the dog. A few other families were hiking, many with their dogs, and the family stopped to say hi along the way," she said.
"Beautiful views and cool air -- and pretty rocky at times! A nice hike," she added.
After the First Family arrived on Friday, they promptly took off on a bike ride and later stopped for ice cream.

ll, the dog doesn’t actually ‘live’ at the White House, or travel with the ‘first family’.
The whole deal was that since the DOG couldn’t travel unescorted, REGGIE LOVE had to sacrifice his busy career time and accompany the dog for ‘visitation’ with the first family.
So, taxpayers paid for REGGIE to follow the Obama’s on vacation. And the White House made sure it was technically ‘legal’.
The dog doesnt live with them? WhY? Is he too muzzie for a dog in the same house?
I thought Michelle flew in with the kids?
So that is how he got the two-headed snake from Maine to vote with him such much. He promised to vacation there.

Poor dog is right, he needs a farm with lakes and woods to run around on.. must be fun being a dog walker at the WH.
Why does Michelle never accompany Barry to a Muslim country? She would be subject to Sharia Law. I have been led to believe that Muslims don't like dogs.

Why just a few days ago Sasquatch told the rest of us "little people" to go to the gulf and support them. I wonder if the thought of leading by example ever occurs to them. As a side note when I googled " Pictures of Michelle Obama in Panama city" I could not find one with the oil shirt she was wearing. I had to look up an old thread on FR. Almost seems like it's been scrubbed.

Total hypocrits. Yet the media still falls for the spin doctor manipulation. What manipulation? Oh come now, with his poll numbers falling, Democrats treating him like the perverted uncle at the family reunion, and the economy looking like a repeat of the early 1930s, the spin doctors probably are telling him to do more family ops and fill the newspapers with “feel good” stories of a daughter going to camp, etc. This vacation is calculated to increase his poll numbers, nothing more. Still, his advisors should have had the family go to the Gulf. Big mistake not doing so.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m really happy the First Family is enjoying their summer vacations when so many people are barely able to put food on their tables. Who said America doesn’t have any royalty?

Everything remotely negative that Zero or the higher-ups in his Admin do is scrubbed within hours of the faux pas happening (this is usually when they speak the truth like with Joe the Plumber). I am convinced he has a little room in the basement of the WH where his Internet wizards clean up all the messes he and his minions create. Similar to the Clintons but on an even bigger scale. I have a clear recollection of Nancy Pelousi saying to G Stephanopoulos ‘Americans over age 55 use entirely too much of our health care resources’. But it is buried on the Internet and was within hours of his Sunday show last summer.
