Sarah Palin favorite for Senate faring poorly -- in Alaska
LA Times ^ | 7/21/10 | Mark Barabak

Sarah Palin has cause to celebrate after Tuesday’s Republican primary in Georgia, where a timely endorsement helped lift her favored candidate into an Aug. 10 gubernatorial runoff. Closer to home, however, things aren’t looking as bright for the former governor-turned-TV personality/"tea party" tribune/prolific-Facebooker.

Georgia’s insurance commissioner, John Oxendine, was widely considered the GOP front-runner until Palin weighed in last week on behalf of Secretary of State Karen Handel, who finished first in Tuesday's balloting.

But the outlook doesn’t seem as promising for another Palin favorite, Joe Miller, who is waging an uphill bid for U.S. Senate back in Palin’s home state. Palin endorsed the Fairbanks attorney in a June Facebook posting, calling him “a true Commonsense Constitutional Conservative.”

I didn’t mistate a thing. I acknowledged that she resigned and that it was costing her a bunch of money to stay in office, both facts.

The Alaskan voters don’t appreciate her resigning however, no matter the reasons. I can understand how that is a problem for the average voter in Alaska and the article makes that point.

Rabid ‘Rouge’ Palin supporters are not going to help her at all if she were to run. ‘Going Rogue’, sounds ridiculous, great title for a book and a run for President. Good luck with that. I’d vote for her if I have to...

Nice way to refer to a fellow longtime Freeper. So I am gay because? What in this thread even appears sexual? You put the Freak in FR with your comment. Disgusting...

The Tea Party and Mark Levin picked him to, but I guess they are not as fun to tear down as President Palin.

I had this same discussion with you quite some time ago, and nothing has changed. You were badmouthing her from the day of the election and continue to do so to this day, all the while remaining conspicuously absent in naming people you somehow think can motivate the base more than she. The answer is simple, there isn’t any. The “she quit” crap is misstating the facts and you know it. The intelligent people of Alaska not part of the Democrat party or corrupt RINO good-ole-boy network of the Murkowski/Young wing know the facts. We know what their agenda was, and she was not going to be a victim of it.

As for her “loss” in ‘08 with the execrable McCain, that, in hindsight, may have been the best thing to happen to her. As Vice-President, she would not have been able to spearhead a political movement as she is doing today, and had the kind of free hand in order to do so (nor could she have done it from the confines of Juneau). She had a loss way back in 2002 which turned out to be a major win for her in the long run (I’d known about her almost a decade back when she was Mayor of Wasilla, and that she was headed towards a position of great influence). She ran for the GOP nomination for Lt Governor in 2002, which she ended up losing. Had she won, she’d have been saddled with being the #2 to the incompetent and disastrous Frank Murkowski, and wouldn’t have been able to challenge him in 2006. Because she was “outside” the system, she was able to vanquish Murkowski for Governor 4 years later. Similar to the 2012 election.

There were the same nay-sayers who badmouthed Reagan leading up to the 1980 elections, that he couldn’t beat Gerald Ford, so how could he beat Jimmy Carter ? Well, we saw the answer to that question, and yes, she is very similar to him (Reagan’s son said as much himself). I believe I said to you not long after the ‘08 election that she would grow in stature to lead a movement, and my prediction proved exactly correct. As for the other cretin “Zauber” in this thread who has a blinding hatred for Palin and seemed obsessed with attacking my popular FReeper page, as if somehow that undermines one iota my long established and well-respected track record of incisive political analysis here at this website, perhaps it, too, should go back and see who was proven right and offer apologies for being an ignorant jackass and troll.

The Anchorage news tend to have strong connections with LA news and being that Anchorage is a very concentrated liberal town and mostly in favor of Murkowski its no wonder we see news like this.

The real Alaska just past the Anchorage city limits favor Miller.

Yeah, I see that a post was removed. I think you have me confused with someone else.

So, what did I allegedly say that was so offensive? It’s not my style to call people names.

Can we agree to disagree on many points? We are both here at FR, so somehow we are on the same side, no matter what. I don’t appreciate being called gay in this debate by you and others, totally off topic and distracting...

If Palin is the frontrunner, I will support her, you have my word, I will press the button in 2012 for her if that is what I am presented with. I was hoping to see a more diverse field, and you are correct, I have no names to offer, I am an observer, I think this has to do with the GOP’s fascination with Palin since 2007.

Cheney should have had the next shot after GWB (like Al Gore had after Clintoon), not McCain, I didn’t care that Cheney had/has a heart problem, so far he has survived, and he was a great VP for GWB and would have made a great President... Cheney/Palin would have been strong back in 2007... Rumsfeld, Schwarzcopf...

I will say it again, I like Palin myself, I think she is great, but I also see that many more do not, for whatever reason. We have an election coming up, and Palin will not turn one voter, maybe the opposite.

There exists a “Palin Bubble” and Palin suporters do not see it, I am hoping to point that out before it is to late... 53% of voters do not and will not support her. Maybe fieldmarshaldj can change that, let’s hope.

GWB got relected for a second term in 2004, thank god. Ever since, we have approached each election cycle beleiving our own hype, only to be trounced at the polls. We lost the seats in the house and congress in 2006, lost the Presidency to Obama in 2008, and faired evenly in 2010, at least where I am located in NC, surrounded by liberal democrats, even though I thought we were going to take over...

Somehow, we are disconnected from reality and the voters. We need to change that before 2012. Obama must be defeated.

The thing is that you (and the other anti-Palin people) have become broken records, and your complaints have all the marks of a “concern troll” (”Oh, I want to beat Obama, I really do, but we just can’t do it with Palin !”). It is simply nonsense. I don’t buy the polls because those pushing them are the haters. No, they are the ones who are terrified of her candidacy at the top of the ticket, because nobody equals her motivating drive in the party... nobody. In fact, I’ll go one better and say she’s more powerful at this point than Reagan was in 1978.

You acknowledge yourself you cannot even come up with any other names, and that is quite telling. We’re essentially 18 months away from having our definitive nominee for 2012, and at this point, if you can’t even come up with some viable names, what can I say ? I knew in 1996 that George W. Bush was probably going to be the nominee in 2000 because almost nobody else on our side was going to be able to likely match him (not to say I was “on fire” for him — I wasn’t — only that he looked to be the most viable and likeliest nominee).

Cheney wasn’t going to be Dubya’s successor simply because of the health issues. Would I have liked to have seen him as President ? Sure, but it wasn’t going to happen, and he made that plain well before 2008. I knew in 2000 that when he was chosen, it was a bit of a mistake on Dubya’s part because that would leave him with no clear successor for ‘08. It was a similar situation when Truman picked KY Sen. Alben Barkley in 1948. Barkley was never going to succeed Truman and it left the Dem party in a bad spot for 1952.

As I said, if you are that “deeply concerned” about one of the most popular and motivating members of our party, I’d submit you’re the one that has the blinders up. As for me, I don’t blindly support anyone, I support her because she is the BEST we have now. If there is anyone better and with as much star power, you need to cite names, or it’s going to continue to reflect badly on you. I will also add that if the concern trolling and the like persists amongst some members of FR where Palin is concerned, especially as we approach the election season in 2011, the owner here will not hesistate to start mass zottings, and I can tell you that this website will be (barring some calamity) firmly behind Palin.

“The thing is that you (and the other anti-Palin people)”

I am not Anti-Palin, please stop mischaracterizing me. Just because I offer some counter-points on her does not make me a “Hater”.

“concern troll”

I am not a ‘troll’ of any persuasion. I have been a member here since 2001 and I post comments from time to time.

” If there is anyone better and with as much star power, you need to cite names, or it’s going to continue to reflect badly on you.”

Last I checked, I am posting on Freerepublic.com, not SarahPalin.com... So to be held in high regards here at FR one must be fully commited to Palin? I don’t think so...

I see we will not be coming to any sort of FRiendly terms here. I wish you and Sarah Palin the best of luck. I would be happy with a President Palin victory in 2012, which would mean Obama was defeated. I hope Palin is as powerful and successful as you so confidently espouse.
