Sherrod: I'd Consider Legal Action against Breitbart

Former Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod said Thursday that she would consider legal action against the conservative blogger who posted the video that led to her ouster.

Speaking on CBS' Early Show, Sherrod said that while she hasn't actively talked about suing Andrew Breitbart, she "would definitely consider it."

Sherrod said that Breitbart's intentions were obvious - but misguided.

Here is a quote from her, apparently in a sympathetic documentary about black farmers back in 2006:

Shirley Sherrod, Albany Office, FSC: “It makes you wonder sometimes why is it that it took Farmers Home Administration that long to, to send a notice. Why is it that the county supervisor didn’t send any kind of letter, you know, leading up to getting’ the delinquent notices in ‘87. So many strange things happen when you have only white people in charge of dealing with our people. “

Interesting how this quote doesn’t seem to be getting much attention, even here on FR (which is where I saw it first)

Yeah. She changed her tune a long time ago, right? 20 years ago? She saw how bad it was to be racist after she abdicated the responsibilities of her job, and realized it wasn’t about race, it was all about class.

Hm. “...our people...”

That was in 2006. Doesn’t sound RACIST to ME. Nope.

Here is the link to the quote (from a transcript) from a site called California Newsreel, and their motto is “Film and Video for Social Change since 1968”:

Here are excellent details on Sherrod’s multi-million settlement from the USDA; and history of her and husband’s “New Communities” in the state of Georgia. Essential reading—

http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/8019074

They, of all things, went to Israel in the 80’s to study the working of communes, but then couldn’t get communes to work back home on the Georgia properties—for, unsurprising, all the usual reasons for failure of commune projects in the U. S., especially in the 70’s and 80’s. The USDA was ultimately blamed years later . . .

Had he seen the whole thing he still could have made the point, and its a correct point, that the audience while ignorant of the direction was happy to hear about ‘getting even’. He could have done that without attacking her.

Beck was spot on for this one... If you don’t have the full context either don’t run it or make a disclaimer.

I am guessing Breitbart embeded a youtube video so he in essence linked to something someone else put up on the internet.

In fact here is the guy who did it:

Larry O'Connor(Stage Right) is a regular contributor to Big Hollywood, Big Government & Big Journalism. He has a daily internet radio show on Blog Talk Radio.

So this is a guy who is a freelancer and Breitbart just embedded the vid.

How is that gonna hold up in a court case?

She wasn’t the story. The reaction of the NAACP members to what she said was.
