Will disarming elderly be next 'gun control' push?

"With the 85-and-older population growing faster than any group in the country, gun ownership among the very old is increasingly a concern of adult children, who worry that elderly parents will commit suicide or shoot someone they mistake for an intruder," Dale Russakoff writes in The New York Times' "The New Old Age" blog.
[...]
I've always and consistently maintained anyone who can't be trusted with a gun can't be trusted without a custodian. But even then, we need to ascertain the ability of the custodians to provide security care in addition to everything else.
We have an aging population. Many of us still have parents, others of us are starting to realize we ourselves aren't getting any younger. The decisions we are or will be faced with aren't easy ones. That means there is no one-size-fits all solution where we can just pass another "gun control" law and consider the problem solved.
We need to have this discussion in the gun community, to develop tools and resources to help us help ourselves and our loved ones.
Or we could just let government take over and make the best decisions for us.

The Nanny-Staters are out to grab all rights from the elderly, not just RKBA.

As 2010 comes to a close, and as a great many elderly kill themselves so that their heirs can inherit an estate without worrying about estate taxes, we will hear some sad stories. And then the disarming of the elderly will appear quite sensible to some folks.

“Concerned” adult children won't say anything to upset their parents out of a “concern” they may change the will. Sweeping legislation is needed to take the guns and keep the geezers out on the highway where they can't hurt anybody who has not consented to violent death.

The elderly will no longer have a reason to commit suicide. The obama state-rationed health care, with Dr. Death at the helm, will be happy to kill them all. And the other good news is that President Death will do it without guns.

They’re going to need guns to defend themselves against the Kevorkian brigades.

Yes... we’ll hear, “it’s for their own good” and “if only they hadn’t had access to a gun” and “they had no right to do that! They don’t own their lives..The State does!”

The elderly may need that firepower more than any other time of life as they may be looked apon as prey.

Best NEVER say you suffer any form of memory loss or depression to your doctor.
And you better start refusing to get on the scales.

I’d say that the elderly are the LAST ones you’d want to try to take a gun from.
