President Obama calls African-Americans a ‘mongrel people’

President Obama waded into the national race debate in an unlikely setting and with an unusual choice of words: telling daytime talk show hosts that African-Americans are “sort of a mongrel people.”

The president appeared on ABC’s morning talk show “The View” Thursday, where he talked about the forced resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod, his experience with race and his roots.

When asked about his background, which includes a black father and white mother, Obama said of African-Americans: "We are sort of a mongrel people."

"I mean we're all kinds of mixed up," Obama said. "That's actually true of white people as well, but we just know more about it."

The president did not appear to be making an inflammatory remark with his statement. The definition of mongrel as an adjective is defined as "of mixed breed, nature, or origin," according to dictionary.com.

The race debate was reignited after Sherrod’s firing. Obama also addressed the issue in his speech to the National Urban League 100th Anniversary Convention in Washington on Thursday morning.

But in his interview on “The View,” which was taped Wednesday but aired Thursday, the president said the Sherrod story was prompted when the media "generated a phony controversy."

"A lot of people overreacted, including people in my administration," he said.

The difference, of course, is that white mongrels aren't deserving of reparations, THUS SPAKE ZEROBAMSTER. You see, the white man made blacks to be mongrels, and therefore the administration has the same right to extract reparations compensatory damages in the form of a totally-controlled by Barry slush fund as it did in the case of $20B of BP money.

Applies to him perfectly. He is from Kenya, raised in Indonesia and passing himself off as American.

Sounds so, to me. I don't think of him as black, white, mongrel or polka-dotted (doesn't matter) but it's interesting that almost all of the synonyms of the word he used to describe himself, fit. And, yes, he seems very hateful, contemptuous.

On behalf of the black population, I really do want to apologize for that embarrassment in the WH.

You have nothing to apologize for, my friend: all we can do in life is make choices as individuals, right? And you have chosen to intellectually honest and stand on moral principles --- what can be more admirable than that? We have no control over what other members of our families do.

But I can understand your feelings, if I am reading them correctly. Being Jewish, I often feel like apologizing for 80% of American Jews who act like sheep and brainlessly vote Dem no matter what.

And makes no sense as well. Can you imagine the look of Michelle Obama's face if you suggested to her that immigrants from Egypt, Algiers and Morocco are African-Americans just as she is? Of try to refer to the fourth-generation white Rhodesian as African-American. They'll never refer to him as such, which rigorously shows that the term, or at least its use, is racist.

This statement is far and away more telling than what he said about mongrels.

So blacks are more aware of their mixed backgrounds???

I thought it was more telling also. Those that have been in the South for many generations know that black culture and norms of behaviour differ from the other parts of the country. For example the church people versus the gambling/drinking set (as indeed it is separate groups for whites— and both have their own “backsliders” who fall into sin), or the revulsion to homosexuality in conservative blacks of the church. Another example: the concept of someone being able to “pass” for being white and the degrees of that passing (mulatto-1/2,quadroon-1/4 black, or octaroon-1/8 black)and what that would mean in social status to black community leaders. I read this “we're all kinds of mixed up” to be more a statement of himself, and judging from his biography, and calling his loving grandmother who really raised him a “typical white person” also said volumes. The thing is to Americans, none of this categorizing should make a difference. Liberals define people down to their interest groups. In the case of obambi he is ashamed of his background. Elsewhere on FR is an excellent professional psychoanalysis of the narcissism that makes up this guy as a result of this shame. Really makes for a nutty marxist ideologue president

Not only his ignorance but his agenda. The implication is that whites, all whites... think they are pure. This is ridiculous but it continues the required racist narrative of these marxists. It will be interesting to read Thomas Sowell and others on this really nasty manipulative dividing commentary. The marxist handbook of the 60’s spells out using race division to drive a wedge between Americans and create the social chaos to go along with the economic chaos for the insertion of the new order.
