Over 6.5 million people watched President Obama on Thursday surrounded by gushing females sitting on a couch.
Tells you a lot about the state of the union, doesn't it?
-snip-
* Thursday's broadcast of "The View," featuring President Barack Obama, qualified as the series' most-watched broadcast ever in Total Viewers (6.59 million), exceeding its previous peak delivery achieved the day after the 2008 Presidential Election (6.17 million, 11/05/08). * Thursday's "The View" also qualified as the series' most-watched broadcast in 17 months among the Key Women Demos 18-34 (516,000/1.5 rating) and Women 18-49 (1.33 million/2.0 rating) - since 3/2/09.

I don't think 6.5 million is really all that many, although I don't know what the potential market is in that particular time period.
It's clear, though, that the greatest percentage of viewers come from old people, and specifically old women, since only 516K out of 6.5M were age 18-34.

That would explain the drop in his poll numbers.

I’ve never understood exactly how they know how many people are watching a show

'I heard or read the largest demographic watching the VIEW are 59 yr old women" Given these statistics, that seems very likely. It's a little surprising for me, as I didn't think the View skewed quite that old. I was wrong, apparently.
Not the "soccer mom" audience Obama was trying to reach, IMHO.

Shrug-- Beck on 5 pm gets more than 4 million viewers, as does O'Reilly. The Daily show at prime time gets a little more than a million.
Think it's a poor showing. And Hasselhoff needs to keep her skirt down. She's practically Basic Instinct here.

No doubt a large number of them weren’t really FANS, but just wanted to see what a dork he could be. And of the ones who were fans at the beginning, I kind of wonder how many still were after watching this self-centered arrogant jerk pontificate for an hour. The likes of Whoopie and Joy Behar can’t help much either.

6.5 Million
People Slack-jawed Idiots Watched Obama On 'The View'
There. Edited for accuracy.
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Think about it this way, that is 6.5 million people who saw him call African Americans “mongrels” and discuss the “reptilian mind”.

'Ive never understood exactly how they know how many people are watching a show" They (usually the Nielsen company) have monitoring devices installed in a certain number of homes. They measure what those homes are watching relative to what the other monitored homes are watching - assuming they've sampled the right "mix" of people, they can fairly accurately extrapolate from those measurements what the wider American audiences are watching.

Did they ever think the numbers are higher because more people are unemployed. Nothing else to do but watch TV. Don’t believe this is something Obama should be bragging about.

I thought a photo of the hosts of The View would be appropriate to this thread. I couldn't find one with Elisabeth Hasselbeck in it though. I think Rachel Maddow was sitting in for her that day as guest host.

Obama was talking to his audience on The View. Women who watch The View do so because Oprah is too intellectual and gives them a headache and it's too early for Jerry Springer.
