Report: anti-gay TV ads swayed Prop. 8 voters {Confused by Prop. 8 ads per SFGate}

The 2008 ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage in California, would have been defeated if voters in favor of gay rights weren't confused about what they were voting for and if supporters including suburban Bay Area residents and white Democrats weren't swayed by anti-gay TV commercials, according to a new report.

David Fleischer, author of "The Prop. 8 Report," spent two years analyzing 10,000 documents from the Proposition 8 opponents' campaign in the hope of providing a road map for same-sex marriage advocates to reach the altar.

Fleischer, a longtime gay rights advocate, is the founder of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Mentoring Project in Los Angeles, which supports campaigns fighting anti-gay ballot measures nationwide.

The report attempts to debunk the conventional wisdom of some post-Prop. 8 analyses that pinned the measures' victory on huge support among African Americans and Republicans.

While those two groups supported the initiative in large numbers, from Sept. 22, 2008, until the Nov. 4, 2008, election, the report said the "No on 8" campaign "lost most ground among parents, white Democrats, Latinas and voters in the greater Bay Area."

FYI, they’re gathering signatures right now for a pro homosexual shacking up measure to go on the ballot... Round 2, coming to a ballot near you soon.

They just keep pushing this cr@p. Sadly, homosexual behavior is all about pushing cr@p so I don’t expect they’ll ever stop.

Bottom line to his ridiculous claim:

Gays, Democrats and African-Americns weren't smart enough to understand the question on the ballot.

Not a claim I would try to make these days if I expected further support.

Or possibly explanation #2:

It's all Bush's fault.

In other words, we the voters are way too stupid to really know what we want, while the enlightened liberal elite know exactly what’s in our hearts.

In fact, we’re so stupid that maybe we shouldn’t be allowed to vote any more.

It would be for our own good.

If Jerry Brown hadn’t interfered with the wording of the bill, there wouldn’t have been any confusion.

The 2008 ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage in California, would have been defeated if voters in favor of gay rights weren't confused about what they were voting for ... according to David Fleischer ... a longtime gay rights advocate.

Fleischer also claims that if his boyfriend only ate rose petals his ---- would not smell like ----.

There are even plenty of homosexuals who oppose changing the definition of marriage. Let’s face it. The traditional institution of marriage has existed for thousands of years. Do we really want to allow a bunch of queer extremists and an avowed activist homosexual Judge to change the foundations of our whole society?

Homosexuals in FL supported upping the threshold for constitutional ballots over 60%. They were counting on that to block a constitutional amendment protecting marriage.

It passed with room to spare.

I suspect this is being held to the end of the day in order to get past the news cycle. IOW as stealth an opinion as possible.

I voted for that amendment. And I don’t live in CA but if I did I would have supported Prop 8 with no “confusion.”

Does this gay activist recall how the Prop 8 people tried to have the wording on the ballot question changed to make it clearer, and more obvious, but the State turned them down, and at the time, I understand the gay rights community was delighted?

A yes was a no for gay marriage, and and a NO was a yes for gay marriage, but, thats not the fault of the Prop 8 supporters!
