ATLANTA — Sarah Palin handed Georgia gubernatorial hopeful Karen Handel her conservative seal of approval on Monday in a tight Republican runoff, saying Handel would "fight like a mama grizzly" and help usher out the state's "good ol' boy network."

Deal was campaigning on Monday in seven cities across the state. On Sunday, former Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee headlined a rally for Deal.
Duncan Hunter could not be reached for comment.

OK, so for non-Georgians, what are the cliff notes on Handel and Deal that make one a RINO and the other supposedly a Conservative??
I voted for Handel in the Primary, but will be voting for Deal in the August run off. He has a good shot.

I would have been too young. And between a Republican and a Rat, I will always vote Republican. Besides, I doubt Reagan switched when the rats where down, like Deal. Specter did the same thing, over and over again.

As a matter of fact, Reagan, who was once a big supporter of FDR, switched in the 50’s - the Eisenhower years.

I’m going for Nathan Deal mainly because I don’t want Roy Barnes. I’m concerned that Karen Handel can’t beat Barnes.

Eisenhower was president, but the rats controlled the House and Senate for most of the 50’s. So really, the rats had the run of the place. I would imagine that the more progressive elements still hadn’t taken as much control as now. However, I’m sure Reagan saw the writing on the wall and switched. Did Deal do the same when he jumped ship in 95, or was it for his own benefit?
From what I’ve read elsewhere, Deal is not to the right of Handel on many issues.

I can’t believe you posted this!!!!! I have been on the phone throughout the day with my clients, they are having fits over this run-off! BTW, I don’t work in any politcal capacity however the majority of my clients are outside of the metro area throughout the state.
Sarah Palin OBVIOUSLY did not do her homework on this endorsement which leaves me to wonder if she chose her just because she is a woman.

I wrote Gov. Palin at her PAC as well as Facebook and asked her to please go back and look at all of the facts that have come out about Handel and reconsider.
None of it makes sense, Handel is not the most conservative, nor does she have the best chance to beat the democrat. She has the worst chance, IMO. Sheesh, even the liberals are cheering for Handel to win.
This was back when we had 7 conservatives running. I never heard back, but I see she’s still stumping so I guess she just doesn’t care. All I can figure is she think’s she’s guaranteeing a supporter in 2012. That doesn’t make sense either because I believe Johnson and Chapman because they are more grassroots/teaparty types (and maybe even Deal) would have supported Palin.

How about some context on the Planned Parenthood issue. It was to administer breast and cervical cancer screenings, not for abortion, as anyone might assume.

YES - how about some context. The context is that the grant had NO such stipulation for the specific services.
This particular vendor is “is recognized nationally for providing excellent, culturally appropriate reproductive health services to women and teens.”
The real context is all right here at GA Right to Life. It’s pretty clear what happened, no matter how you try to spin it.

Handel is quite the spin-master. How long did she deny that check to Log Cabin, saying it was forged, until a copy came out and then she backtracked and admitted it?

Besides, it’s been a long day and this back and forth is entertaining. Bottom line, I would vote for Handel (can’t, I’m in NM) and I assume you would vote for Deal. I sincerely doubt we’ll change each others mind, although that would be something.

Oh, by the way, the “planned parenthood” is not the ONLY issue - there is a boatload of issues with Karen Handel but I’ve made all that clear on other threads for anyone that cares.
Of course it is not the ONLY issue. And we can go back and forth till the cows come home, but what’s the point at this stage. You are convinced that she is evil, and anyone who says otherwise is a spinmaster. Well, right back at you.
