What Naomi Campbell knew about the "blood diamonds" she received from Liberia's former warlord/president, "monopoly of violence" advocate, and Hague war crimes defendant Charles Taylor, is the subject of conflicting testimony. Likewise, her motives for deciding she couldn't keep a gift that could have resulted in criminal charges against her is suspect.
Was she "flirting" with a bloody-handed tyrant? Did she know the "dirty stones" she says she got from his henchmen (and there's a word you don't hear much outside of The Venture Bros. episodes these days) were really valuable gems? Does she care about how such diamonds mined in certain areas of Africa--often through forced labor by captives--are used to finance brutal repression and terror? What part did knowing it's illegal to remove such diamonds from South Africa play in her decision to "donate" the gift instead of keeping it?
And what does this have to do with the subject of gun rights?
Complete light may never be shed on the first questions. But the rich and famous cast of characters involved in this sordid tale is illustrative:
First we have Campbell herself. Physically abusive to the help, she nonetheless "lent her name to the magazine Marie-Claire's anti-gun efforts, when they 'asked celebrities...to join us in our campaign for sensible gun laws.'" And naturally, she joins other super-rich celebrities in being a big fan of Marxist strongman Hugo Chavez.

Agreed. And what jurisdistriction does this court have over her, or anyone else for that matter?
It’s a perverted kind of guilt that motivates them. They feel guilty that they didn’t earn any of their fortune, that it was just thrust upon them, and they pervert that sense of guilt by clinging to their wealth like misers and pushing for leftist solutions that will tax me and you to pay for “the poor”.
It’s perverted, it’s sick, it’s demented and it’s extremely, extremely, extremely dishonest.

Campbell is the petulant model who is most famous for her temper tantrums—throwing a phone at her maid, trashing her boyfriend’s yacht, ranting at British Airways staff for not having her luggage. The list goes on and on. She’s a nasty piece of work but I’d be surprised if she knew she was accepting a “blood diamond.”
I don't know if that's all true, but it gives the impression that although being given a diamond in NYC is a wonderful thing, the jet set crowd fully understands that receiving a diamond while in Africa is not without its problems.
Moral of the story, don’t hang out with tinpot dictator thugs.
As long as the “blood diamonds” are off limits the diamonds owned by some other country are worth more. I guess we’ll never see legal diamonds from some countries in order to keep prices up.
Help me understand. Why do these people think it’s okay to socialize with the likes of Charles Taylor to begin with? I’m somehow pretty sure she’s not so dumb that she didn’t know his background.
It’s called “pretty girl syndrome”. She’s a moron who never had to develop a personality.
This Campbell woman is truly a slug. She is so evil that she is ugly. I can’t stand the sight of her.

She must know who Charles Taylor is. She hangs with Hugo Chavez as well. It seems Miss Naomi never met a dictator she didn’t like.
