Roger Ebert is not a film critic. He is a film groupie.
And anything on TV is an infomercial, making him nothing more than Billy Mays in drag.

Was he raised Methodist or Catholic?
Either way, it shows.

Excellent piece. I don’t have time to read the whole thing now, but what I have read shreds the juvenile “logic” of Ebert.

Oppressives like Ebert are not known for anything other than sactimonious blather rivaling an Elmer Gantryesque carny verbosity with the oppositional defiant disorder of a three year old.

In contrast, the late Gene Siskel was a devout member of a very conservative synagogue, and was a good family man.

EBERT: “. . .The instinctive response of Americans should have been the same as President Obamas: Muslims have every right to build there. . .”
The “instinctive” reaction of most Americans, post 9/11, is a deep suspicion of an Islamist flimflam artist stirring up publicity so he can hustle millions from Saudi princes and gullible U.S. liberals.

The Left-wing NPR crowd does not live in America. They live in a fantasy world of the universe. They have no national identity and therefore no sense of national boundaries. All they know is that they hate America, and anything that is not American is a part of the world they live in.

Erbert cashed in with the thumbs idea and that — not his criticism — is his claim to fame. In serious criticism he is nothing more than a footnote about thumbs.

A great tour de force refutation of the deranged Roger Ebert’s spew fest. Ebert is a collasal bore who seems to think his voice is a needed or wanted one in the national debate. It’s not.

“It is only once informed of the inner workings of the faith its history, its tradition, and its current practice throughout the globe that one begins to shake the prejudice of naiveté and discern the threat Islam poses. Surely, Eberts observation that the Muslims who attached the World Trade Center are not the Muslims who are building this mosque is technically accurate. It is also an answer to an assertion no one is making. The real question is just how true to the Muslim faith Imam Rauf is. If he is a true follower, an adherent to the faiths text and prophet, that is reason for grave concern.
Regarding the Cordoba House with suspicion is no more hateful than scrutinizing a neo-Nazi group. No matter how many times a neo-Nazi tells you they are peaceful, knowing Nazism as you do, you would tread carefully. When it comes to the infidel particularly the Christian and the Jew the prescription of Quranic Islam is Hitlers Final Solution. Standing against that is an exercise of discernment, not hatred.”
This wise man makes my point completely. I couldn't (and didn't) say it better myself. There was never any suspicion or bigotry in my mind or heart prior to the aftermath of 9/11. When I found out exactly what those affable, charming, handsome and gregarious folks REALLY thought of me, what they REALLY believed, I simply said it's not for me. No offense intended and please take this in the kindest way possible, but “NO, thanks.” Don't hate them, don't think anything about their building mosques, it's what's behind the “lies are okay,” “refusal to live with other faiths in their homelands,” it's brutality in every single aspect of their lives that I hate — each one of them personally — I don't give them a thought and I will always treat them as I have been taught — with respect. That's about all I can muster since I found out the contempt in which they hold me.
It's called “discernment”.

Oh, and did I mention the forgiveness thing? We have made EVERY POSSIBLE ATTEMPT to forgive those who have harmed us — from Muslim Extremists to the Japanese to the Germans, to the British, to — oh geez, fill in the blank — not to take revenge, but to offer a hand up after the dust settles. Unfortunately, those who trained and supported those who harmed us aren't quite so inclined. THEY'RE still chewing on hatred from 5,000 years ago when Daddy liked Ismael best and 700 years ago from some unpleasantness over Jerusalem. I mean SERIOUSLY????? Our pain and suffering is less than a decade old and we're supposed to move on. They can't give it up from 5 millennium ago. Talk about gall.
