My opinion is as valid as yours. And I’m a lot nicer about it.

>> e-s to noob: You’re on the wrong board noob!

Let’s remember how many FReepers had issue with the Father of the Aussie teen who failed in her recent oceanic adventure.

The noob is in good FReeper company on this one.

BTW, I didn’t have a problem with the teenage Aussie’s adventure.

Yes, kids that age fought in the revolutionary war - some but not very many.

Maybe you watched “patriot” one too many times.

And the life expectancy back then was about 35 years of age b4 you died of something....

I missed getting my drivers license at 14 by 6 months when California raised the age to 16.

I started plastering when I was 14 so I could have a 1st class street racer built and ready when I got my license at 16.

I had a paper route when I was 7 and at 8 I bought a whizzer engine for it that made delivering the 200 papers a whole lot easier.

The bicycle and engine went in the trash on my 16th birthday.

I lost a childhood friend to an accident with a tractor when we were in gradeschool, another was crushed under the bucket of a loader when he was about 16. Your clownish attempts to pick and choose what is and isn’t safe for the rest of us makes you sound like a liberal moron.

For a newcomer you sure are coming on strong here, calling these people idiots and the like. Better become a little more introspective, bub, before they get you tossed.

When I was about 20 working on the farm. The farmer’s 8 year old son drove the big construction loader as we picked rocks out of the field.

He was too young to pick but needed to know the job.

With all due respect...shut up. Stop capitalizing everything and losing your mind. It's probably safe to say that if this were your kid you would not have let him race...on the other hand he wasn't your kid so it's really none of your business. People are stating their opinions. Fine if you don't want your kid doing anything risky or adventurous, but again, this was not your child.

Didn’t think you could.

You are right. The next time some parent wants to sell their 12 year old girl I will remember your words.....”it isn’t my business”. Fact is nothing YOU do is none of my business, right? YOU should be permitted to do whatever it is your heart desires........right? And to question your parenting abilities.......shame on me right????????

Sheese.

Some people.........

I hear you on that. I took care of a young man, 20 years old, with a thoracic fracture. He had already had to have surgery for a lumbar injury. Sweet kid, had a lot of heart, but his dad struck me as a real prick. Very arrogant, demanding, flaunting his trophy wife, etc. Struck me as the classic stage door parent.

That said, you can get killed crossing the street.

So now you compare selling your kid into prostitution (which is already illegal) to letting your kid compete in motor sports.

Like you said.... Sheesh. Some people......

I am sorry, but these parents need to be brought up on charges for this kind of neglect.

Sure hope you are joking. If not, get lost.

Prayers up for the family.

This is not about selling a 12 year old...get a grip. And no in this instance it is none of your business...it is only your business if it’s your child. Stop flaming everyone for their opinion.

Yes, there’s a lot of money in it for the top riders. There are regional and national circuits. The parents usually act as their managers/agents and the boys are under a lot of pressure to perform. In addition to the prize money many of them pick up endorsements. Truly big business.

My thoughts too... the father has an incredible loss... and the poor kid who hit the victim has got to be suffering in a very different and still massive way.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Its the same kind of thinking that gun grabbers use when they claim children living in homes with weapons are under a dire threat.
