ABC: Men arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport were preparing terrorist attack

Monday, August 30th, 2010 at 9:23 pm | Monica Lawrence | By Monica Lawrence

AMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) -- Two men were arrested aboard a United Airlines flight after landing at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Monday, ABC News reported.

The network, citing Dutch public prosecutor Ernst Koelman, said the men were arrested at the request of American authorities after the flight landed in Amsterdam. ABC said the men were subsequently charged with "preparation of a terrorist attack."

The two were allowed to board the flight at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago on Sunday night despite security concerns surrounding one of them, officials told ABC News, which identified the men as Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi, of Detroit, MI, and Hezam al Murisi.

If his name is Mohamed, I can pretty much guarantee you he is a terrorist from some extremist islamist country like England or France.

“Someone needs to go to prison for allowing this!”

Agreed!

How the hell did we let this happen?

Is this more “muslim outreach” from Obama & co?

One more reason not to board another plane IMHO--:

Except for a trip to Beaufort SC last May for an educators workshop at Parris Island, I've not flown since the Sept 11th attacks. However, with our daughter having just moved to New York City for an upscale fashion job (Think The Devil Wears Prada except at the actual fashion designer instead of a magazine), so we're destined to go and visit several times a year. It's going to be beyond weird. The Flight and the having to walk around unarmed all the time. I have always lived in an area where I could have a concealed weapons permit and I have always enjoyed reciprocity with neighboring states. One reason I have not crossed the Mason-Dixon Line on vacation. Now, I gotta. ~sigh~

Can’t we have a non-Muslim name associated with the word “terrorist” for once ? (something like Richard Reid for instance) /sarc

Money quote from your link” “This was almost certainly a dry run, a test,” said one senior law enforcement official.”

Nice.

So some of them still want to kill us, eh?

It looks like this was a "dry run"

That is exactly what it was. The Pepto-Bismol is not a coincidence. PB is x-ray opaque. They were testing security.

I thought box cutters were definite contraband.

I know of people who’ve had keepsake penknives confiscated because of the no-blades rule.

Maybe they were being interviewed in WDC for jobs as nobama’s czars of moolsim inclusion or some such. They just got on the wrong plane. Move along, Citizen. Nothing to see here.

Airport security screeners in Birmingham, Alabama first stopped al Soofi and referred him to additional screening because of what officials said was his "bulky clothing." In addition, officials said, al Soofi was found to be carrying $7,000 in cash and a check of his luggage found a cell phone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle, three cell phones taped together, several watches taped together, a box cutter and three large knives. Officials said there was no indication of explosives and he and his luggage were cleared for the flight from Birmingham to Chicago O'Hare.

Political correctness = spineless bastards will get us all killed! Prosecute those who allowed him to pass and send them ALL to Guantanamo!

I think the opposite. It doesn’t take a dry run to figure these things out.

Can you say: “Dry Run?” They both should have been detained and held for questioning.

Oh, come on. You are being too harsh—TSA was very diligent in strip searching Granny and her 4 year old grandaughter after taking full body x-rays of them. They made that flight safe!

Just look at the names. They’re definitely Amish or Mennonite. There’s no doubt about it.
