A cargo plane has crashed at an air force base shortly after take-off from Dubai airport, killing two crew members on board, officials say.
There were no injuries on the ground and commercial air traffic was not affected, they added.
The plane was a Boeing 747 belonging to US company United Parcel Service (UPS).

“Crash: UPS B744 at Dubai on Sep 3rd 2010, fire in cockpit”

Fire in cockpit?
My little voice is saying something else was going on, but it being a UPS cargo jet would also mean it could have had something aboard that caught fire.
Tragic news about losing the crew.
Yes, prayers for the family.
It could be anything that started the fire, but I’m looking forward to reading the final report when it becomes available to the public.
Vaya con Dios, our thoughts and prayers to you and your loved ones.
The pilots were from near me in Anchorage, Alaska. More specifically they flew out of Anchorage.

Alaska.
Thank you Eye of Unk.
They were both so young.
RIP.
Aviation websites are reporting the smoke was so thick in the cockpit the crew wasn’t able to read their instruments. They couldn’t even change radio frequencies. They were asking other aircraft for relays to ATC. They were also asking for information on their heading, altitude and ground speed. Probably the worst scenario possible with the exception of the cockpit actually being on fire.
Prayers mam.
I went to college with one of the two who died in the crash, the first officer. He was a good guy with a heart of gold. He was in his late 30s/wife/young daughter...was stunned to hear the news. It’s very sombering to see the picture of the wreckage of the daytime photos and to think of my friend passing in such a tragic way.
Please all pray for his family to find comfort and peace in this difficult time.
I will pray for the families.
I am so sorry about your friend Phatus Maximus.
Thank you very much...
