President Bush nominated Judge Roberts to become the next Chief Supreme Court Justice. On September 29th Justice Roberts was sworn in as the 20th? Supreme Court Chief Justice.
President Bush remembered 9/11 heroes at a Medal of Valor ceremony. He also met with several foreign leaders and addressed the Useless Nations

Here’s an excerpt where Timothy talks about resigning from a plagiarism scandal and how the President forgave him and showed concern for him and his family. It’s pretty touching!
So surely this, I thought, would be the woodshed moment, and again I completely deserved it. I expected other people to be there, but when I got to the Oval Office the only other person there was the executive assistant. I thought I must have come on the wrong day—but the President called me in. I thought: This is going to be really bad. I went in and closed the door.
I turned to him to apologize, but barely got the words out before he looked me in the eyes and said, “Tim, I forgive you.” To say I was stunned would be an understatement. I tried again to apologize, but he wouldn’t let me. He said, “Tim, I’ve known grace and mercy in my life. I’m extending it to you. You’re forgiven.”
I said, “You should have thrown me into Pennsylvania Avenue.” Again he said, “My friend, you’re forgiven. We can talk about all of this, or we can talk about the last eight years.”
As I turned to head out, though, he said, “I want you to bring your wife and boys here, so I can tell them what a great job you’ve done.”
I was stunned and speechless. The leader of the free world, the most powerful man on earth, wanted to affirm me before my wife and children. Sure enough, my wife and boys came, the President gave them a great amount of time in the Oval Office and gave them gifts.

Handsome as ever and the Bush girls just get more and more beautiful. So glad I caught this thread. His heart must be breaking over the frightening condition our country is in. How Blessed were we to have him as our President for 8 years—what an honor!
My recollection is that GWB might have been in Maine and found out that that plane was stopping on its way to Iraq and asked to greet the troops. (Someone correct me if you remember otherwise.)
Can you imagine their amazement and delight? You are right, GWB is a truly caring and good-hearted man.

That photo was taken while GWB was still in office. He was greeting troops on their way to Iraq. It is, indeed, a very moving photo.
The way so many on the Right viciously turned on GWB less than a year after his reelection is why I've largely given up on politics.
I'm a political conservative, but no longer consider myself part of the modern conservative movement. I know that might be hard to understand, but basically it means I'm now an independent who has little patience for rabid ideologues and demagogues on either the Left or Right.

Thank you. I feel the same way. I wonder if President Bush has ever wanted to speak out on the declining state the country is in right now. It’s got to be eating him up inside. But he’s got too much class and he’ll never do it even though we’d like for him to rip Obama into shreds!
Lovely, isn’t it? Too bad so many people don’t get to see this side of President Bush with his acts of kindness and warm gestures. The public has been forced-fed this distorted perception from the media and the left that he’s a cold, rotten war criminal, blah, blah, blah...
If people ever got the chance to meet GWB in person and see that he is a genuinely nice person, then their view of him would change completely for sure!

You’re so right Wolfstar. I, too can’t stand the purist Right who felt President Bush didn’t live up to their standards and tore him down at every chance they could get. I’m sick of hearing complaints from them like, because of his reckless spending and his incompetence, Bush was responsible for electing Obama into office.
To me these so-called radical “Right” are just as bad as the left-wing Democrats, if not worse! I can’t relate to them nor do I want to be associated with them at all!
