Former Pittsburgh Steelers Raising Money For Flight 93 Memorial
Rocky Bleier Announces ’40 For 40’ Fundraising Dinner At Heinz Field
UPDATED: 8:43 am EDT September 2, 2010

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier unveiled plans for a fundraising dinner to benefit the Flight 93 National Memorial.

Bleier, who is the head of the 40 For 40 committee, announced the fundraiser Wednesday afternoon, less than two weeks before the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The committee includes 40 former Pittsburgh Steelers that are teaming up with the National Park Foundation to pay tribute to the 40 courageous passengers and crew members on the that flight.

“What memorials are is a reminder of the stories that need to be told about those they represent,” said Bleier. “Not only the 40 stories of the families and the men and women that were on that flight, but the stories of all who are involved in 9/11.”

The benefit dinner is set for November 17.

All proceeds will go towards the memorial in Shanksville that is expected to be ready for dedication next year, on the tenth anniversary of the attacks.

I have heard the improvements at this memorial are in the shape of a crescent, is that right?

If so, who designed the facility and who approved it?

Rocky was brought in a couple of years ago by my employer to speak at a company function/celebration.

You can google for that info but I haven’t read anywhere that it has changed shape. I hope these guys know what they’re doing because no one should be contributing a dime to the memorial as it’s planned now. It started as a crescent, then they cut a space out of it but it still appears as a crescent. Lots of good info by googling.

No donations for a crescent-infected memorial.

I believe that is correct.

I also question to what extent these will be "improvements".

The "temporary memorial" cited above in this thread was spontaneous, contributed to privately, and, frankly, touching. (I've been there). The new memorial site takes up 3 SQUARE MILES!!!! I have yet to hear a cogent justification for something so large.

I see a semi-circle, not a crescent. If I am not seeing what some are, how about someone photoshopping the image above to show me a crescent that has a resemblence to this

Crescent memorial breaks my heart. The muslims mock the heroes of flight 93 with this memorial. The crescent memorial commemorates flight 93 heroes’ pointless bravery. Americans are so easily distracted. America has forgotten 9/11. I hereby vow to personally desecrate this muslim memorial.

No solid American, Vietnam Vet has nothing to do with it, would endorse this muslim p.o.s. Misguided? Oblivious? Probably.

After his 1968 rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bleier was drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1968. He shipped out to Vietnam in May 1969 and served with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. On August 20, while on patrol in Heip Duc, Bleier was wounded in the left thigh when his platoon was ambushed in a rice paddy. While down, an enemy grenade landed nearby, sending shrapnel into his right leg. He was later awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

So is this a crescent as well?

A Fallen Trooper Memorial has been constructed on the grounds of the Michigan State Police Training Academy near Lansing. It was funded entirely by private donations. To Honor Those Who Have Fallen The funding campaign began in the fall of 1999. Groundbreaking for the Memorial began in the late spring of 2001. The dedication ceremony was October 16, 2001. With the help of the Michigan State Police Troopers Association, a special Michigan State Troopers Assistance Fund was established to handle all contributions for the Fallen Trooper Memorial.

I don’t care WHO this guy is....I don’t trust anyone anymore to know what the hell is going on...I’m sick to death of candy-asses that just want to appear tolerant. Being a “nice guy” athlete doesn’t “do it” for me. This is subtle, and subversive and I don’t trust a f*cking athlete to know what the hell is going on. This is ANOTHER triumphal symbol of what the mooselimbs think is their defeat of the great satan.
Does anyone have this guy’s e-mail or home address? Write this candy-ass and ask him what he thinks of shariah law....(I’ll bet he’s never HEARD of it)....then, ask him what he’s getting out of this! THEN....ask him if he has children.
Good GOD! Where are the MEN in this country?

Architects design chosen from entries are Paul and Milena Murdoch. Extremely hard to get any general information on their political beliefs, which I concede are their private business. Originally the design called for 44 translucent blocks to commemorate the 44 lives lost. 40 were innocent souls having absolutely nothing to do with any harm to Islam. 4 were the terrorist murderers.

I understand that the architect did indeed modify his design and that the 4 murderers will not have the translucent blocks. One of the supporters of the Ground Zero Mosque is the very man whose wife called him on her phone. She told him of what was happening before she went to her death.

Have many people been brainwashed by this creed of "show them we care". They must be laughing secretly. It is called a crescent after all.

Correction to my post.
Barbara Olsen was on flight 77, the one that crashed into the Pentagon. She phone her husband prior to this.
May she and all others who were innocent on that terrible day, rest in peace. We shall not desecrate their memory.
