If you burn a Unitarian religious text, does the whole thetistic world get upset?
Good post. Food for thought. :-)
“So.... you wouldnt have a problem with witches burning the Bible? Or filthy communists burning the flag?”
If you’re asking if it offends me....the answer is yes...
So what...lots of stuff offends me....I dont go ape shit over it and threaten to Riot and murder...
If you’re asking If I have issues with the 1st Amendment...the answer is No...
“Both of these, along with the Koran burning, are legal under the First Amendment.”
And that should be the end of the argument...This is still America.
If the muslims dont like it they can pound sand...
“But all three of these are offensive and pointless, in my opinion.”
And legal...like drawing a cartoon of Mohammed...
The idea, therefore, that my comment about the many times the Israelites were instructed by God to wipe out their enemies is an attempt to "malign" it is a spurious argument.
Burning the Koran and endangering our troops is a bad idea, and this wayward, attention-seeking 'pastor' is out of line. His support of Fred Phelps is a good indicator that his character is deeply flawed.
Excellent post!!!!
Wow. GREAT post, af_vet. On the money. Thanks!
“This little “church” is looking for attention. If the members of this church want to get off their butts and actually do something meaningful, they can call on their members to give up their comfy civilian lives and join the military and actually fight the radicals in the Middle East.”
Never happen,,,never. Because they agree with Phelps that our troops are monsters and God hates them. Why would they join something that they believe God hates.
You seem to be extremely touchy about sectarian religion differences. It seems as if you go out of your way to pick religious fights. A simple, "Well, actually, I am not Catholic" would have sufficed.
Sorry about that. Change the analogy accordingly.
"If a Jewish veterans group started burning New Testaments to protest the nutjobs of the Westboro Baptist Church insulting the families at the funerals of U.S. soldiers, would you, as a Protestant, not be insulted by the misguided burning of the New Testament?"
There. Fixed it.
In regards to "illiterates", Calvin was no illiterate. It was the "learned" who could write just as easily in Latin as in the native language who spawn to religious fanaticism of the 16th Century just like , right now, you seem to think that all 1 Billion plus Muslims in the world are exactly alike.
As has been pointed out time and again, Islam is not just a religion but a total system of governing.
As I pointed out, repeatedly, you have just described "Islamism".
All Islamists are Muslims. Only a minority of Muslims are Islamists.
The Old Testament was also a recipe for a "total system of governing" to the point that the Old Testament advocated genocide against some nonbelievers.
Today, only religious nutjobs, such as the ones you are defending now, hold to such beliefs.
Most modern Muslims do NOT hold to such belief for the very simple reason that they do not want the Religious Police controlling every detail of their lives.
One of the issues is the move of stifling free speech.
If it were a matter of "stifiling free speech", the pastor would be in a U.S. Government jail right now.
The pastor is not being told that CANNOT do it. The pastor is being told that he is stupidly putting American troops in added danger by doing it.
The fact of the matter is that, as the title of this thread states, this religious nutjob pastor is cut from the same cloth as Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church.
"In Support of Westboro Baptist [Dr. Terry Jones "burn a Koran" supports Fred Phelps]"
This guy WANTS to put U.S. troops in increased danger and he wants more of them to die because of his sick beliefs.
Go to the start of the thread and see the girl trampling on the American flag. Look up the news stories about how these maggots go to funerals of U.S. soldiers to taunt the families that they deceased loved one is burning in Hell for having served in the U.S. military.
If the moderates wish to change things they will have to do more than they are doing now.
We are talking about effects in Afghanistan and in Iraq.
You do not feel that these Iraqi "moderates" are doing enough? Risking their lives to fight against the Islamist nutjobs is not good enough for you? You feel a need to insult them to, right along with the Islamist fanatics?
Well done!
Very good information. I’ve been digging around this all afternoon and I have a suspicion the Dove people are also Tachmonites or something similar. Some of their ‘devotionals’ actually read a lot like the Branch Dividians.
I am honored to do it, and thank you so very much for your kind words!
We received no Freepmail from you. Your posts were removed on this thread because you advocated violence.

Thanks.
It seems that Sarah Palin has also weighed in on the matter.
Palin: Koran burning is 'unnecessary provocation'
"People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation -- much like building a mosque at Ground Zero," said the former Alaska governor.
Yep. Agreed.
Thanks for that article.
“I would be interested if anyone can verify the allegations made by conservative radio hosts that these guys were on a previous Bible burning agenda.”
Which conservative radio hosts?
I think that the best course of action would be to contact the conservative radio hosts and inquire about their sources.
