General McChrystal finally spoke out in a speech
at the end of September 2009.
His plan for a troop increase had previously been leaked at the end of August-
between Barry’s pre Labor Day Martha’s Vineyard vacation
and his post Labor Day Camp David vacation.
Only at the end of Sept 2009 did Barry begin to focus on Afghanistan.
Sept 30 Barry finally convened his National Security team to discuss Afghanistan
for the first time since March.
It was only the second time that he had spoken with General McChrystal since he assumed command in June.
