NRSC Will Not Support O'Donnell [Update: NRSC now says it will support O'Donnell]

Full statement by John Cornyn, head of the NRSC:

“Let there be no mistake: The National Republican Senatorial Committee – and I personally as the committee's chairman – strongly stand by all of our Republican nominees, including Christine O'Donnell in Delaware.

“I reached out to Christine this morning, and as I have conveyed to all of our nominees, I offered her my personal congratulations and let her know that she has our support. This support includes a check for $42,000 – the maximum allowable donation that we have provided to all of our nominees – which the NRSC will send to her campaign today.

“We remain committed to holding Democrat nominee New Castle County Executive Chris Coons accountable this November, as we inform voters about his record of driving his county to the brink of bankruptcy and supporting his party's reckless spending policies in Washington.

“In the weeks ahead, we will decide where to best allocate additional financial resources among the large number of competitive races at stake this November. While it's not in Republicans' interest to advertise our spending strategy to our opponents, it's worth noting that just yesterday, the NRSC's first independent expenditure ad aired in support of Dr. Rand Paul's campaign in Kentucky, where we firmly believe that he will win in November.

“It remains to be seen whether national Democrats will provide a similar level of support for many of their nominees, including in key battleground states like Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Arkansas, Illinois, and New Hampshire, among others. The Democrats' indecision reflects the fact that Republicans are on offense in at least 12 Democrat-held states and we are leading in the polls in seven of those 12 states.

“Finally, on the matter of the New Hampshire Senate race, while the results remain outstanding, we continue to monitor the Republican primary race, and we stand ready to fully support whichever candidate is chosen as the nominee.”

You don't need to run against the Republicans. When you have a situation like Delaware you just move in and supplant the existing party. When your candidate wins you offer a choice ~ for the next election ~ to other Republicans. They can go with YOUR Republican party or the LOSER Republican party.

The Democrats did this trick in Southern States to destabilize the segregated Democrat State parties.

It worked.

Remember the regular Republicans in Delaware are not going to be supporting the Republican candidate ~ so there's no competition.

Change your name a bit ~ maybe" Delaware Party of Winning Republicans"

“Don’t donate to the party - donate directly to the candidate.”

exactly. Been doing this but recently gave to RNC and NRSC too.......well, NO MORE and they’ll know about it!

Better they announce their position in advance of asking for contributions. I applaud their transparency, and hope they get no contributions.

Who gives a hell about the NRSC - They are useless fools anyway when it comes to running campaigns or putting in ad buys - There stance here is foolish, especially when as others have pointed out...they supported the Specters, Snowes, etc, etc all these years.

With that said, imploding the GOP is not the answer. Becoming ugly toward others you otherwise agree with 70% of the time is not wise....Lets slow it down. Lets focus on GOP candidates (the good and the bad ones...but especially the good ones) winning this November.

I tried but it would not work. If they abandon her we must send her money instead of them.

so the will of thousands of voters in that state and millions around will be ignored because their elitist RINO did not win.

well it seems they still are not getting the message so here this Rove, Perino etc.

YOUR TIME IS UP, YOU NEVER STOOD WHAT WE WANTED AND YOU ARE DESTROYING THIS PARTY

We should start the TPSC (Tea Party Senatorial Committee)or the GNTNRSC (Give Nothing to National Republican Senatorial Committee).

Mark Kirk has millions of dollars to take on Alexi G in Illinois, because of a judges ruling that states there will be 2 elections the NRSC gives him $3.4 million even though they cleared the primary field of any current elected Republican in the State. He has run a poor campaign and has a bad voting record in regards to the Republican principles.

But they are more than willing to give him the Max. But they won’t give anyone they didn’t support in the primary anything unless they can pull a Scott Brown or have someone like Charlie Crist bolt and badmouth them.

I doubt this will stand. after a few days, cooler heads will prevail (unlike what is happening here right now) and the NRSC will support her.

the is the nominee of the party. you don’t turn your back on the nominee of the party . . . ever . . . period.

it’s important that castle man-up and endorse her tonight. lots of wounds to heal, and not much time to heal them.

I was going to vote for the GOP candidate in my district in November, up to know incensed that there is a 3rd “Tea” Party candidate in the race. Tonight I changed my mind. THE TEA PARTY CANDIDATE GETS MY VOTE NOW. To the NRSC I say SCREW YOU!

I GO POGO.

Explain again to me how Cornyn and the NRSC are NOT anti-conservative RINOs, but are ‘just doing their jobs’.

They make this grand announcement while she's giving her victory speech?? Can you spell C-L-A-S-S-L-E-S-S?!?!

No, this isn't about some stragetic effort or her chances of winning the general at all. This is personal. This is all about saying "F-U, conservatives! We'll show you!"

I do believe it will be they who are SHOWN.

“Jim DeMint’s PAC is great...will be donating there, soon”

That’s definitely the way to go. Demint needs conservatives in the Senate with him, not Dem-Lite politicans like Castle.

“O’Donnell’s chances of winning are almost nil, that’s a fact whether we like it or not. Putting money in that race would be a waste, why not put it towards Fiorina, or Johnson (WI), or Rossi?”

You might be right,, BUT to announce this an hour after she won, while she is still celebrating was not mere cold calculus. It was a deliberately public slap to her, and to us.

It’s WAR,,, we take over the party now.
