Sen. McCain Says He'll Block DREAM Act

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who cosponsored the 2007 mass amnesty bill, says he will block the Defense Authorization bill if the DREAM Act is attached to it. McCain says Sen. Reid's announcement that he'll try and bring the amnesty bill up for a vote is nothing more than a political move by a candidate in a tough re-election race.

“It’s a pure political act for Harry Reid, who is worried about his own re-election and that of the Democrats in the Senate,” McCain said. “So I intend to block it, unless they agree to remove these onerous provisions."

McCain is the Ranking Member on the Senate Armed Forces Committee. Committee chair Carl Levin (D-Mich.) expected to mark up the bill this week, but McCain's threat to filibuster non-defense related amendments could slow things up.

A report from Roll Call says that Reid is expected to offer a procedural motion on the defense bill this week and bring it to the Senate floor next Tuesday, but no one knows if he has the necessary 60 votes for cloture.

In 2007, McCain cosponsored the DREAM Act in addition to the "comprehensive immigration reform" bill, but he has taken a tougher approach after facing a tough primary challenge.

Between the ages of 18 & 35 a person is still considered a child? CHIPS has 25 years of age the last year 'you are' a child....thinly veiled WELFARE! The Dream Act is a Dick Durbin for Reid bill....read carefully then call your elected. It sounds reasonable in parts, but is it?

The rule here is that you always get more of what you reward. McCain must have read our thread on this yesterday, and the Weasel Zippers article it was based on.

Not that McCain won’t pass up an opportunity to put a thumb in the eye of conservatives, but as I’ve said before, McCain is one seriously vindictive SOB and ‘those people’ didn’t vote for him, so he is unlikely to support amnesty or really ANYTHING for illegal aliens going forward.

Hey, the coin was called ‘heads’ and it came up ‘tails’. Ya gotta respect a man like Juan who feels so strong about the serious things in life.

How else do you explain his positions on the border fence, in-state tuition and amnesty. There isn’t a topic around today that Juan hasn’t been an outspoken proponent or opponent of. Depending upon the coin toss; he has a speech prepared for both positions.

He’s smart to wait until after November to demonstrate again what a true two-faced hypocrite he is. After all, the Dem would still be a choice for voting Arizonans in November, and there is a “throw them all out” attitude nationwide this year.

this is to eliminate the need for “citizenship”

thus an ILLEGAL ALIEN 35 year old grad student is eligible to be the anchor for serial immigration!!!

it is pure amnesty.

So you have been absent from the scene for 20 plus years now...and suddenly think you should be listended to by them? Why? So you can get “upset” with them and leave for another 20 plus years?

I don’t think they even knew you were gone.

Is he also bi-polar?
