The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover. Thanks to the Dollar ReDe$ign Project, we may now have some options. Organized by creative strategy consultant Richard Smith, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project is soliciting ideas for the dollar bill of the future. "Our great 'rival', the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to rebrand and redesign," the project notes on its website.

I kind of like just leaving well enough alone.

This is dumb and a waste of time.

What we have is what we need, we just need gold to back it and to get rid of the federal reserve.

My combined comments from the earlier thread on this subject;

I’m so sick and tired of these a-holes spending money on foolishness! Me? I’d phase out the one dollar bill. They don’t last very long at all, and are filthy with bacteria, etc.. Gimme the coins. They last about a thousand times longer than the paper bills. The coins can be recycled. Bills are just shredded and dumped into landfills.

I just opened my wallet to do a count before heading to Aldi. My wallet smells like a cheap hooker (I think! I wouldn’t actually know!). The banks decontaminate singles and spray them with some kinda junk. I hate that smell! The dollar coins have copper in them, which is a natural bactericide and anti-viral agent.

I’d like to ask these idiots if the current printing plates are worn out?? How much would the total cost be for designing and engraving new plates? I’m livin’ on a very strict budget, and these butt warts think nothing of spending our tax dollars on things that are not necessary! Like teachin’ African men how to wash their zooties! This has got to stop!!!!!

We don’t need to spend money on all these unnecessary things. Start saving everywhere NOW!

“The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover. “

Faulty premise. Just another unnecessary expense. Stop the insanity and leave the dollar alone.

Probably a reaction to the lawsuit they lost to take “In God We Trust” off the money, so now they trump up some other way to get what they want.

Where’s “In God We Trust.” Lemme guess, it is “printed” on the edges of the bills, just like with those stupid Presidential Dollar Coins, out of view.

Totally agree. Just another needless expense. Maybe the real reason they want to do this is to get “In God We Trust” off the money.

The Lawsuit objecting to this failed, so typical libs come up with another way to get what they want.

***What they have not told you is that one NEW dollar will be equal to TEN old ones.***

That is because a dollar today is worth less than ten cents.

Remember the 10 cent coke? no tax.
Today it is about $1.35 before being taxed.

The three cent postage stamp today is forty four cents.

The 25 cent movie is today over six or seven dollars, and more in some areas. And they don’t even have a double feature on weekends!

A needless expense, I agree, but I do think much of the $1 note.

Marketed in rolls at around a quarter each, they’d make the bathroom much more satisfying.

‘cause God knows that anything with his image on it isn’t worth ...

Before he leaves office Obama has an obligation to make dollars soft, strong, and absorbent.

The ONLY paper dollar bill worth having is the one that removes the FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE and replaces the words with...
Pay To the Bearer On Demand One Dollar in Gold or Silver.

Same for highter denomination bills.

Indeed, fixing the currency to a specific weight and and purity of a precious metal WOULD stop [most] inflation in its tracks.
But in addition to that a simple amendment to the Constitution [assuming the Constitution carries any weight]would be as follows:

1 — One Dollar shall be fixed at a weight of 1/16,000 lb of gold of a purity not less than 99.9%
2 — The federal government must pay all of its wages and contracts in gold currency; it is forever and always forbidden to render to the Citizen a check or other form of credit as payment.
3 — No debt shall be assumed which shall cause the total debt of the United States to be more than 10% in excess of the physical valuation of gold currently in the Treasury.

#1 would fix the price/value of the dollar so that the government/federal-reserve could neither flood the market nor “starve” the market of coinage.
#2 would royally screw with:
a: Federal employee payment systems,
b: Federal contractors,
c: Federal military pay — Remember that the WHOLE REASON for Constitutionally mandating that the army’s budget could not exceed 2-years was to prevent a standing army.
d: The accounting [and tracability] of these physical monies would go WAY UP when auditors reviewed government contracts.
#3 would solve the problem of the government thinking that they could “spend” their way out of debt and force them to face the current economic realities NOW instead of waiting for everything to blow up

The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover.

Why, are people counterfeiting them to buy a gummi bear?

The guy says vertical makes more sense, but the large number is at the bottom, covered by your hand or the other bills. Try it out. It could also discriminate against left-handed people.

Very European. I think they should just stop screwing with it. They’ve been tweaking the bills and coins incessantly since the Clinton administration and it’s just getting stupid. They say it’s to make it harder for counterfeiters, but when you’ve got so many designs out there nobody can keep track anymore I think it helps them, all you need to tell a clerk is “it’s the new series” and you can probably pass off a kid’s drawing of a 20.

Some are making a dollar fare more valuable by turning it into art.

Yes, those are stacks 'carved'.
