The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover. Thanks to the Dollar ReDe$ign Project, we may now have some options. Organized by creative strategy consultant Richard Smith, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project is soliciting ideas for the dollar bill of the future. "Our great 'rival', the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to rebrand and redesign," the project notes on its website.

The ONLY paper dollar bill worth having is the one that removes the FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE and replaces the words with...
Pay To the Bearer On Demand One Dollar in Gold or Silver.

The last guy who tried that got a bullet in the head as a "thank you". I hope someone tries again with better results.

I have some 1980s paper money from the Netherlands (a 20 guilder note, as I recall) that features a portrait of Jan Sweelinck, who might be considered the national composer of Holland, and the father of organ music as we know it. How about a new series of American currency with portraits of American composers. We could start with Chuck Berry.

...................Faulty premise. Just another unnecessary expense. Stop the insanity and leave the dollar alone.

A voice of sanity.

Looks like a Euro note. No thank you!!!

The existing US currency is classic, well recognized, and perfectly useful.

“A voice of sanity.”

Well I thought so. It sometimes feels like I woke up in some alternate USA universe (like used to happen on star trek).

Anyhow, I think a little sanity now and then would be appreciated. Guess you do too.

When your $100,000,000,000 bill has an expiration date, something is wrong.

Looking at the submissions, that is the best and most respectful of the nation’s history. However they all suffer the defect of lot looking like American money. The change is too radical when it really should be more evolutionary. The changes on the $5, $10 and $20 are jarring enough, introduce these and people won’t know what their money is supposed to look like.

As a side note, I’ve come to the opinion that they should just stop printing $1 bills and switch to coins only and at the same time should discontinue, not just the penny, but also the nickel and maybe the dime or quarter. When the half penny was discontinued in 1857 it was worth a little more than a dime is now.

Think about what can you buy with a quarter? It is good for nothing but change and dime, nickel and penny are worth even less. Frankly, they aren’t even worth the effort it takes to count them, exchange them and carry them around. Lots of cost savings for the mint if we all just recognize that inflation has already rendered most coin change worthless even before the inflationary effects of all the recent stimulus borrowing and spending have hit the economy.

What we have is what we need, we just need gold to back it and to get rid of the federal reserve.

How about having a real gold thread ribbon running through the bill? Burn it and you'll still have value. I miss real silver and gold in common currency coins. Worthless junk money we have now.
