NEA-Alaska Stands Firm in Support of Murkowski for U.S. Senate

Association will work to re-elect Senator Murkowski

Following the announcement by Senator Lisa Murkowski that she will run for her seat on the U.S. Senate as a write-in candidate, NEA-Alaska today announced continued support for her re-election. As the largest union in Alaska, the 57-member Political Action Committee for Education (PACE) pledged their support in early June by an overwhelming vote and stand by Murkowski in her bid for the senate seat. The NEA-Alaska PACE committee represent public school employees from Ketchikan to Kaktovik.

"We're relieved to hear Senator Murkowski will pursue her seat in the U.S. Senate as a write-in candidate," said NEA-Alaska President Barb Angaiak. "She has the experience and the proven effectiveness when it comes to K-12 public education issues in Alaska. The Senator has worked tirelessly on education issues and is a valuable asset in our nation's capitol, promoting educational accountability and securing the resources needed to educate the children of Alaska. The members of NEA-Alaska PACE are proud to support Senator Murkowski for another term in the United States Senate."

On the federal level, NEA-Alaska has a number of critical issues including the need for increased flexibility and funding for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, repeal of Social Security Offsets, and the need for teacher housing in rural Alaska.

NEA-Alaska is a diverse organization of teachers, certificated staff, education support professionals (ESPs), retired members, and students training to become teachers. With almost 13,000 members, NEA-Alaska is a democratic organization that promotes high standards of excellence in education for the children of Alaska through support of public school employees. Approximately 67 local associations in school districts across the state are affiliated with NEA-Alaska, which is the state affiliate of the 3.2 million member National Education Association, headquartered in Washington, D.C. Gee, does that endorsement take votes from the Republican, or the Democrat?

The spirit of Charlie Christ knows know physical bounds.

The NEA can suck and blow all it wants. Its members vote the way they want...for Miller. Teachers in Alaska like Sarah Palin, except for a few leftist wing nuts and leftist blivet touch holes.

If the teacher's union is for her, that's really all you need to know to vote against her.

The NEA endorsement of Murkowski is wonderful; evry vote she gets is a vote taken from teh Demo, McAdams and a vote that Joe Miller never would have gotten. No loss and a big gain.

With all the k-12 carnal education going on out there, there may be more truth to the billboard than they intended.

Freudian slip, and all that...

NEA should be a political action committee for tax & regulation purposes.

No. This is good news. Otherwise they would support the Dim.

Has a NEA endorsement ever swayed a voter?

NEA-Alaska is a diverse organization of teachers, certificated staff, education support professionals (ESPs), retired members, and students training to become teachers.

So the NEA even sucks money out of poor teaching students?

Bloodsucking Leeches for Murkowski.

Well, they went all out to defeat the Democrat incumbent Mayor in D.C. because he was a strong proponent of charter schools and they succeeded so yes...they can sway votes. However the only votes they are likely to swing here would be Dems to Murk so it doesn’t hurt Miller at all.
