Sarah Palin's 2012 Opportunity
US News and World Report's Washington Whispers ^ | September 28, 2010 | Paul Bedard and Caitlin Huey-Burns

Posted on 09/28/2010 8:55:19 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The odds-on favorite to win the GOP presidential nod in 2012 is none other than Sarah Palin, according to a statistical formula developed by Villanova University Prof. Lara Brown. The professor's figuring is bad news for presumed hopefuls like Rep. Mike Pence, Sen. Jim DeMint, ex-Gov. Mitt Romney, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Gov. Haley Barbour, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton. Many simply joined the game too late, says Brown, author of the new book Jockeying for the American Presidency: The Political Opportunism of Aspirants, which studies every election since the founding. Others, like DeMint, are still brewing but won't be ready until 2016. As for Newt? "I don't think the GOP can forgive him," she says.

The book devises an "opportunism variable" based on the candidate's résumé to explain who wins the presidency and why. Palin has an advantage because she has been elected both mayor and governor. She also was a major party vice presidential nominee, giving her an enviable breadth of political experience. According to Brown, candidates who take risks and run for a variety of offices do well. It's even better if they lose a presidential race or two. "It takes about a run and a half to get there," Brown says. Pols "may think they can get it done in six months or a year, but [winning] will actually take them running, losing, and planting seeds," she says.

Yep, but she’s winning, and it’s good to see her do so well.

“The DNC is cursing McCain...”

That is one of the things on my “Smile” list.

That post looks like a threat directed at another FReeper.

Surely you didn’t intend that, now did you Onyx?

Then his endorsement would be HUGE if he manages to shut down the lame ducks. That should be a focus as soon as the election is over. No more playing nice.

Why would she want to take a cut in pay?

If money was a motivation to Sarah, she would have gotten rich serving on the oil and gas commission in AK. We know from her experience there that she is an honest person and more concerned with the welfare of constituents than her personal wealth.

If you read, “Going Rogue”, you’ll see that she is motivated by fulfilling her destiny, walking through doors that are open, maybe doors that have never been open to a woman before. If she does not see a path to victory, the door would not be open, and she would not run. Everything I’m seeing indicates an open door, a clear field ahead, and a run in 2012.

It is late for me to chime in but, I said it before and I’ll say it again. Sarah Palin has a patriots heart.

She loves her country and will do what her country asks of her.

she had the unmitigated gall to actually call McCain a “REAL CONSERVATIVE”

A REAL is an old Spanish coin.

She certainly has full range to speak her mind. That would be silenced in a presidential campaign.

I don't expect Sarah's outspokenness to change at all in the coming 2012 campaign. She's already made her positions on most issues abundantly clear, and she'll have to re-iterate all of that when the time comes.

Given the tenor of the times, and the current mind-set of the electorate, I expect her to even ratchet it up a few notches. That's exactly what most center-right Americans love about her. She's a no-holds-barred fighter for truth, and unapologetically pro-American.

She will only strengthen that rhetoric during the campaign. It's precisely what the people need and want to hear, and Sarah will deliver in spades.

Your little group has already identified itself as Palin haters. Nobody I know is going to bother trying to convince otherwise. Sarah Palin does not need your support.

I'm headed to bed, and we'll try tomorrow, but here's a thought for you:

What it comes down to, is that if Sarah Palin is stupid enough to believe that John McCain is a conservative, then she has no business as the GOP nominee, and certainly no business as the President of the United States

Change this to: What it comes down to, is that if Ronald Reagan is stupid enough to believe that Richard Schweiker is a conservative, then she has no business as the GOP nominee, and certainly no business as the President of the United States

Schweiker had ACU ratings of 38, 9, and 18 the three years before Reagan nominated him as his veep choice in 1976. Schweiker was far, far less conservative than McCain could even contemplate, yet he was going to be Reagan's first veep choice and actually served in his cabinet..

Think about it hard before posting that "Palin isn't consistent because she endorsed McCain" meme again please.

Why don’t you just make me ‘get lost’ Onyx?

You posted a graphic that suggests a threat to Rabscuttle385, if that wasn’t your intention, kindly explain to us what your intention was?

I found your post #32 offensive, and I think any reasonable person would too.

SO you believe what is said in a political autobiography?

“Why would she want to take a cut in pay?”

What a tragic comment.

From an old Barry Sadler song, “Well if you don’t know now, I can’t tell you”.

Sarah Palin doesn't need over the top fanatics posting graphics which suggest violence to others, as you did in #32.

That is a pretty old graphic here at freerepublic, instead of whining like a girl because you don’t interpret things well, why not just turn her in to the moderators, they’ll remove it and the nightmarish danger can end?

If Jim DeMint stops the lame ducks from passing their crap after the election, he will be right up there with Palin very quickly.

Maybe, but DeMint has said repeatedly that he will not run for president in 2012. He said this again as late as last week.

Don't look for him to run in 2012.
