27% Avoid Buying GM Cars Due to Bailout
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 10/3/10 | Staff

Think the auto bailouts are still unpopular? Fifty-four percent (54%) of Americans say they are less likely to buy a General Motors car because the federal government is the automaker’s majority owner. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just nine percent (9%) say they are more likely to buy a GM car for that reason, while 33% say the government’s majority stake in the company has no impact on their purchasing decisions.Twenty-seven percent (27%) say they or someone they know has avoided buying a GM car because of the bailout and government takeover. Fifty-three percent (53%) say

Like GM, Chrysler does not get a pass here either. I will never buy either again.

Mine has a 390, a single 18 gal tank and gets about 10 mpg. But I don’t drive it much so that’s not an issue. I love to drive it but can seldom find the time.

Some of the older folks love the OnStar and I can’t say I blame them.

As I recall GM just replaced one government loan with another and then announced they paid the money back....which - in a parsed words kind of way - was technically true.

I just replace my Lexus ES300 (someone ran a red light and totaled it) with a Lexus RX350. Love it!

I had a 65 Thunderbird with a 390. Rock Solid engine.

Is that original to the truck? Seems like a big engine for a short bed.

I would not buy a GM car until the US Government was de-infested from the company, GMs true taxpayer loans were repaid, AND the premium bond investors who got 10 cents on the dollar were compensated. Until then GM and all of it’s principals can choke on their automobiles.

The 390 is a great engine but it’s not the original. I purchased a 1969 F-250 Camper Special at about the same time I purchased this truck. It was a great truck until a Triumph Spitfire drove under the rear of it causing a fire. So I cannibalized it for its engine, C-6 tranny and 8-lug, ¾ ton axles. The truck you see in the photo is essentially a short-bed ¾ ton, though the title says F-150. I had it painted in 1994 and redid the interior at that time. I found a new bench seat from a ’94 Lariat (it was still wrapped in plastic) and was surprised to discover it bolted right in and I didn’t have to drill a single hole. Also at that time I found a beautiful 1968 Galaxie 500 that had been junked. I tried to purchase the entire vehicle but they would only sell parts. Ford made these parts interchangeable so the arm rests and many other parts on this truck are from that car.

This truck is no race car but with the shift kit in the C-6 it’ll chirp the tires in 2nd gear. I’ve had many offers but it’s going nowhere. My real worries are living as close to the Mexican border as I do. These old Fords aren’t very difficult to steal so I keep it garaged. Did I mention it only gets about 10 mpg? A rebuild would probably help that but why fix what ain't broke?

I will not even think of buying a GM car so long as Gooberment is a shareholder.

I won't buy anything from any company that took bailout money TAXPAYER DOLLARS, ESPECIALLY THOSE COMPANIES THAT WERE DRIVEN INTO THE GROUND BY THE SOCIALIST UNIONS! When it came time to replace my wife's 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan with 125,000 miles on it, we bought a Honda Oddysey instead of another Dodge.

I'm getting ready to replace my 2005 GMC Envoy Denali with a whopping 60,000 miles on it that needs $1,500 in front end work due to shoddy engineering and workmanship with either a Ford Explorer or a Toyota ForeRunner.

Either way, Dodge or General Motors ObamaMotors isn't getting another dollar from me.

The only reason I'm even considering Ford at the moment is at least they were smart enough to see the problem coming several years ago, managed to get their unions to negotiate their contracts down, and avoided stealing our tax dollars to stay afloat.

Since both Honda and Toyota are made in America by American's in NON-UNION shops I can still take pride in knowing that I helped keep another American employed.

Wait a minute. I thought GM paid back all that money with interest.

You're referring to the ads that GM ran while Whiteacre was the Obamao appointed CEO. GM had to stop running those ads due to Glen Beck proving they were false and Beck threatening to expose Whiteacre.

If you've been following the GM "IPO" in which the Government is looking to sell its "remaining shares" in GM, you'd have noticed that not only is the IPO short, it seems that the loss to taxpayers is going to run into the billions of dollars.

No surprise there, the damn' Government can't run SS, Medicare or Medicaid properly, who'd have thought they could run a car company the right way?

My son had the same problem w/ his Tahoe.

I had front end trouble (one of a list) with a babied 2001 Intrigue. Sold it at year 5 w/ 26k miles. Warranty running out, front end still not fixed.
Bought a Honda Pilot.

60,000 miles and it needs new upper and lower ball joints in the front end. I've never had a vehicle that required new upper and lower balljoints with such low mileage on it.

My 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country 4x4 which had 130,000 miles on it when I sold it still had a rock solid front end in it, and I'd taken that one off road! My Envoy Denali has never left the damn' pavement.

Really ticks me off, I should've never gotten rid of my old Jeep. That thing still ran like new when I sold it for this one. Disgusts me really...

That would be what I'd seen making that claim. I wasn't aware they pulled it out of fear of being exposed for the liars they are, however. And, of course, I never saw any retractions for their lies.

If you've been following the GM "IPO" in which the Government is looking to sell its "remaining shares" in GM, you'd have noticed that not only is the IPO short, it seems that the loss to taxpayers is going to run into the billions of dollars.

I hadn't been tracking it. On a "news" site I post on, one of the liberals who is a radio host who has a blog page claimed that the stimulus bill would end up costing nothing because of the return on profit from these shares...I knew he was lying, of course, and pointed it out.

No surprise there, the damn' Government can't run SS, Medicare or Medicaid properly, who'd have thought they could run a car company the right way?

I've found that progressives don't care if something actually works...what is important is that they're seen to care...if it works or not...doesn't matter to them.

I had a ‘78 F250 351/M400W. (351 Modified 400 Windsor)

Bought it in ‘83 from my grandfather. Only thing that the truck wouldn’t pass was a gas station. I had over 150,000 when I sold it to a friend.

In these times, there is no room for compromise.
In war, compromise equals surrender.
Make no mistake, we are at war and we must win. This November I would suggest voting for only those who would support and protect the only one and true American way:

· They support the strict enforcement of the Constitution

· The Constitution is not a “living and breathing document”, that it not subject to interpretation or change except through the amendment process.

· Czar or Tsar is a communist title and those positions must be immediately eliminated.

· Any Communist or Socialist program or scheme to “redistribute the wealth” must be rescinded.

· Anyone uttering the words “Workers of the World Unite” should be immediately deported to a communist nation of their choice.

· The Federal Government is to immediately with draw from any and all programs that have not been specifically granted to them by the U.S. Constitution.

· The Federal Government must issue Shares to all tax paying Americans of all companies that received Federal bailout monies.

· One hundred percent of all Tax Revenue is to be used for defense and border security; all other programs will be eliminated with those personnel transferred to border security. This includes large detainment camps to accommodate all illegal aliens now within our borders. All excess funds will then be applied to the national debt.

· All Departments that are not Defense related will be substituted at State level to be outsourced to private companies with four-year renewal contracts. For instance, Park s Management, Public Works, in fact, all infrastructures can be made into an industry instead of a tax burden.

· All monies stolen from the Social Security system are to be immediately repaid.

· No law will be presented for approval that exceeds ten pages.

This short list of initiatives would restore democracy, cure unemployment, wipe out national and personal debt thereby enabling the freedoms and liberties that were always intended by the founding fathers, but have been relentlessly stolen from “we the people.”
