Potential witnesses in two Brooklyn murder cases executed near posh Manhattan nightclub

Two young men who were potential witnesses in two Brooklyn murder cases were executed inside a parked SUV in Manhattan's Flatiron district early Monday, police said.

The victims, identified by police sources as Rashawn Washington, 26, and Terrance Serrano, 22, of Coney Island, were partying at Flatiron hotspot Roam before they were slain.

The motive was unclear.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said security-camera footage shows a dark sedan pull up behind the silver SUV, parked on E. 19th St. between Park Ave. and Broadway.

Two men hopped out of the sedan and approached the SUV before disappearing from view. Seconds later, the camera captured them running back to the car and zooming away.

"I heard a series of shots. 'Boom! Boom!' Pause. Then 'Boom! Boom! Boom!'" said Glenn Steigelman, 61, who lives around the corner from the crime scene.

"I looked at my clock: It was 3:45 \[a.m.\]. I tried to look out the window and I heard a car screech and speed down the street, like it was trying to get away really fast."

Kelly told reporters that Washington and Serrano were potential witnesses in two homicides in Coney Island last year.

"They had not come forward," Kelly said. "They were identified to us as potential witnesses."

Kelly did not provide further details about the earlier killings.

The dead men are both from Coney Island and have lengthy rap sheets. Investigators are not sure whether they were targeted because of knowledge they may have had about the previous homicides.

Police sources said Washington and Serrano may have been involved in a dispute while inside the club. No arrests have been made. No weapon was recovered, but cops found five .45-caliber shell casings at the scene.

Two Verizon technicians working a block away from the crime scene saw a fight outside the club but did not know who was involved.

"There was a little bit of a brawl at the end of the street on the corner," said one of the workers, Mike Buttermark, 44.

"I just heard someone screaming at the top of their lungs after the shots were fired. People started getting really distraught after they heard who got killed. One guy got really upset and picked up a garbage can and threw it at a cop car."

Both of the SUV's front windows were shot out, cops said.

"There were two other bullet holes in the windshield - one on the driver's side and one on the passenger side," Buttermark added. "It was a clear execution."

For a hit always use a wheel gun, no casings.
Doesn’t anyone watch movies any more?

Motive unclear? Oh, it was probably someone who didn’t like SUVs. Sure.

They should have no problem narrowing down the list of suspects to the few licensed handgun owners in NYC. The NYPD should have the case cleared in just a day or two. < /sarcasm>

As the decedents had lengthy rap sheets, and may have been active pimps and drug dealers, there are too many people with motives to isolate the most likely killer by motive alone.

It's a common problem when dealing with criminals - they get whacked for what they are doing now before you can get them to rat out some one else.

Bada bing, bada boom boom (pause) boom boom boom.

Yes, the police are investigating if they were murdered for being bad dancers.

I’m sure other potential witnesses got the message loud and clear.

Not true!

At least so far, I’m up at 3 AM.

And if I’m not, the auto alarm, otherwise known as dogs, will ensure, if I can still move, that I am.

Now wait a minute . . . this happens in NYC - The Big Apple?
Is not this the city with the toughest gun laws in the country. Supposedly, only a few are allowed to carry guns in NYC; and certainly not the criminal element according to what I read in the papers and here from liberals like ChuckU Schummer.

Two young men who were potential witnesses...

The motive was unclear.

Yeah, sure.

People started getting really distraught after they heard who got killed. One guy got really upset and picked up a garbage can and threw it at a cop car.

I guess he didn't like to see the police investigating the murder.
