George W. Bush Calls Kanye’s Katrina Comment “One Of The Most Disgusting Moments In My Presidency”
MEDIA ITE ^ | 11/03/2010 | Steve Krakauer

Posted on 11/03/2010 7:06:03 AM PDT by WebFocus

Taking a break from election results, NBC News has released a few excerpts from Matt Lauer’s wide-ranging interview with former Pres. George W. Bush as he promotes his new book.

He talks about 9/11, about Donald Rumsfeld and a lot more. But he also talks about Kanye West.

Yes, that Kanye West. While he’ll probably love the shout-out, his comments after Hurricane Katrina during a live telethon had a profound negative effect on Pres. Bush. Here’s the exchange:

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: Yes, I do. He called me a racist.

MATT LAUER: Well, what he said, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: That’s — “he’s a racist.” And I didn’t appreciate it then. I don’t appreciate it now. It’s one thing to say, “I don’t appreciate the way he’s handled his business.” It’s another thing to say, “This man’s a racist.” I resent it, it’s not true, and it was one of the most disgusting moments in my Presidency.

Wow. We’ll have more on this as the week goes on. The interview airs Monday at 8pmET on NBC as part of an hour-long special, and Pres. Bush will be live on Today next Wednesday.

The image is from the interview.

Kanye West showed what a boor he is when he impolitely interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. Of course he apologized to her later.

He still has to apologize to Dubya. I'm not holding my breath.

You know, W would have scored a lot of points if he had said this back in 2005.

But, unlike our current p-resident, Bush ignored the criticisms at the time and concentrated on doing his job instead.

Yes. And the Democrat media would have spent the next decade calling Bush a racist for telling the truth.

I completely blame "TurdBlossom" for that.

Boy, him coming out with his book and making an appearance at the World Series really reminded people of how they love Obama, didn’t it? ;)

That World Series appearance was great, and people are starting to realize, “You know, he was far from perfect, but it was nice having a president who actually loved America.”

WWRD (What would Reagan do?) he would have ignored someone like West too, W did the right thing.

You have got that right.

One of my major disappointments in W has been his willingness to absorb the punches from the left and not strike back. One can do so a few times and declare you are on the higher ground, but one can only take so much.

Bush took far more than he deserved.

Right. But, there’s a time and a place for calling a thing by its right name. And W should have handed this wormy, little dirt-ball his a^% on the spot!!

It’s a different world than when Reagan was President, by not countering the attacks from the media, they took on a life of their own, and became in essence what Goebbels called, “The Big Lie”, it was said enough, without repudiation, that it became the truth in many peoples’ minds, especially in the Black Community.

Kayne’s supposed apology to Swift was him saving what he could of his sorry ass in the face of public outcry against that incident - there was no such noise when he made the racist comment against Bush. Frankly, surprised Bush even gave it the dignity of address now and, thusly, Kayne the satisfaction of acknowledging Bush’s offence to it.

That’s all we need to do is bring the Gay Fish back into the limelight.
