Egyptians And Saudis Simulate War With Iran
Pajamas Media ^ | November 5, 2010 | By Ryan Mauro

Egypt and Saudi Arabia are preparing themselves for war with Iran. The two Arab countries just held their first joint military exercises called Tabuk-2 over a one-week period, simulating a scenario unofficially based on a potential conflict with the Iranians. The exercises took place in the northern Egyptian desert and included F-16 aircraft, helicopters, and artillery units. The forces practiced defending against an enemy offensive and counter-attacking with an invasion into the attacker's territory.

The Israeli intelligence website Debkafile accurately analyzes what this scenario means. They note that the commander of the Saudi forces in the exercise was Prince Khaled Bin Sultan of the Ministry of Defense and Aviation. His most recent experience was in leading the Saudi forces fighting the extremist Shiite Houthis in Yemen that spearheaded a proxy war waged by Iran. The Egyptians and Saudis are preparing to defend Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province from an Iranian assault. This province is about three-fourths Shiite and is the location of about 90 percent of the Saudi oil production. It is ripe for instability and Iranian-backed subversion.

Going to clean up the mess, eh?

On the other hand, maybe they should let Israel assist them, make things a whole lot easier in the long run.

“Debkafile accurately”

Two words that should never be used together.

Not possible for reasons of internal politics. No Muslim will join the Jews in attacking another Muslim country. That's why Sadam lobbed rockets at Israel and Israel stayed their hand in 1991.

..But we were told by the well meaning MSM that for the last 50 years, Israel was the obstacle to true peace in the Middle East.

Why would the Saudi’s and the Egyptians engage in war games against another nation NOT named Israel???

No. If you'd read the article you'd know they're wargaming an Iranian invasion of Saudi Arabia

Planning for the mess to get bigger.

Note to every newcomer on FR: "Israeli intelligence website Debka" translates to mean "Israeli propaganda website Debka"

I will be kind and say that they are a pack of lies smeared with plausibility. Debka's goal is to goad America to attack Iran. They will say anything and are far beyond a disgrace, they are a news cartoon.

If that's "Debka's goal", they should understand that they will not achieve their goal until Hussein leaves office (Inshallah, 2012). While I do find Debka wildly speculative at times, the Saudis have in the past turned to the Pakistanis, the Brits, the Iraqis (under Saddam) and (of course) the US to assist them in times of external threat. It seems only natural for them to partner-up with the Egyptians against a possible (and if the Iranians develop some nukes, a probable) Iranian threat. Frankly, though, I don't see how that development (if true) would "goad" the US into attacking Iran. You may want to check some Egyptian and Saudi government sites before you reject this article out of hand.

I don’t keep up with MSNBC, Prison Planet, Lou Rockwell, African Press International, or Debka on a daily basis.

Thanks Strategy. Debka everybody. However, I’d point out that, if true, having the giant pool of manpower from Egypt and the funding and arsenal of the Saudis (thanks to the past couple of decades of buying, the Saudis have more weapons in-country than they have population to use them) will help when the US has to come to their rescue.

IOW, imho the Iranian army is among the best in the Middle East, maybe *the* best, after Israel’s; the other possible runner-up would be Jordan; the top five would include Turkey.
