I don’t fully understand the politics of our trade with India.
India has her own interest and therefore we have been reluctant in signing big technology transfers.
India will work with whom ever it sees as beneficial to India.
I love the people, but am leary of the government.
India see’s a major threat from China the moment.
They want an arms build up to counter that.
China is encroaching by land and Sea.
Of course India also wants economic expansion.
I see this as more difficult for them.
The infrastructure just isnt there for effective trade.
My Brother has a mango farm there and he has to take a day trip by ferry just to get to the Local market in panjim.
How will he get the harvest to walmart in the US?
The apprehensions you have are mirrored by parallel fears in India of a closer embrace with Uncle Sam-on its impact on the economy, security etc. The usual suspects talk of a loss of sovereignty if India buys US technology or weaponry or a possible threat to small time traders if more evil Yankee multinational corporations come in. So any government will have to walk a fine line and take its own time.
I understand. They have china and pakistan in their backyard.
India is an odd place.
Many LOVE Capitalism and America and others HATE it.
I think most like capitalism but there is this meme, even here that capitalism is equal to evil.
India does need a way to make capitalism fair.
It has to be difficult for the poorest people to have the opportunity to excel.
Of course there is always a danger to the US in opening markets.
When Billions of folks get a chance at the pie, someone here tends to be challenged.
Ah well. I guess that is why they call it WORK.
In general bigger markets mean more pie for everyone.
I always prefer to call it “Bartering”.
Thanks.
