The request was made for a plane that could make the trip non-stop. The legitimacy of the request was acknowledged by the White House. Prior to Pelosi being elected Speaker, this wasn't an issue because the Speaker's home district was within range of a smaller plane.
Normally, a C-20 (Gulfstream III) can make that trip non-stop. But, winds aloft during the winter can make that impossible.
Through the end of 2008 (after 2 years as Speaker of the House), the 757 had only been used once, and that was the Air Force's decision, not hers.
Furthermore, by the end of 2008, a total of 20 round-trips had been made between DC and San Francisco. That's less than one per month.
Seriously, Pelosi is guilty of a host of sins and misdeeds. But, this isn't one of them. By repeating it, you are just discrediting the rest.
I don't think I've ever seen a prick poker that I'd pick. Most of the prick pokers are positively porkers.
I also think congress should spend much less time in Washington and use telecommuting from their home districts.
I think there are is a ton of money to be saved if we start scraping together all the nickles and dimes these jokers are wasting.

Who all in Congress, other than the Speaker, gets 24 hour protection on a routine basis? None I would think. And the Speaker is guarded by Capital Police, not Secret Service, right?

He SHOULD fly coach. No reason why they can’t buy 2 seats for him to spread out a bit. That way, he could interact with ordinary people. You couldn’t ask for better PR!!!

Thanks, that’s news to me. I was just repeating what the Air Force has said in the past: they were providing one of their executive transports, based on the individual mission requirements.
She didn’t like to refuel. She demanded the 757. Onc she even sent it to transport her kids,,, no offcial purpose whatsoever there.
And yes, we all know it had an air force tail number,,, but we all also know the queen had all her demands met by the USAF. They didn’t DARE just serve her up any old Saberliner in the rotation. If the 757 was in for maintenence etc, but they didn’t dare defy her.
And bear in mind, HER party, under HER leadership was the source of the anti-bizzjet jihad. Her party brutalized anyone but them who flew private jets.
It’s highly disingenuous to say she did the same thing the Repub speaker did.
