So Will The TSA Be Taking Our Pens And Pencils, Too?
michaelgraham.com ^ | 11/15/2010 | Michael Graham

The following is REAL LETTER home to parents of 6th graders at North Brookfield Elementary:

“Due to recent safety issues involving pens and mechanical pencils…if a student is found in possession of these items it will be assumed the intent is to build weapons or that the item was stolen…”

“Students will be bringing home all writing implements today [Friday] and will be issued yellow #2 pencils at school for use during the day.”

The (somewhat) good news is that the principal got so much backlash from parents over the weekend that she’s stepped in and overruled these teachers.

Sorry but we have become such a passive group that we let the TSA (another Government control group) dictate our actions! It is past time for America to stand up and declare - enough!

We have let the terrorists win by our actions. It’s time to stand up for reasonable rights and tell TSA to relent or go away!

I was sitting in fifth grade math class one day when one student stuck his #2 pencil underneath the rear of a girl preparing to sit down in the seat in front of him. She sat down on the pencil and was impaled through the rectum. There was a lot of blood. Moral of the story: #2 pencils are just as dangerous as mechanical pencils and pens so we better go back to quills and ink wells just to be 100% safe.

I still have a piece of a broken pencil tip embeded in my wrist from when a kid stabbed me with his pencil in the first grade in 1956.

No, better to go back to portable chalkboads and chalk, you know, like in Little House on the Prairie.

“it will be assumed the intent is to build weapons”

A presumption of guilt. We need not merely to rebuke these tools, but to imprison them. We are living in a putsch of the PC stupid.

I can still see the lead in my ring finger when I had a situation in 7th grade. That was in 1982 I think.

This country has gone insane.

Ditto. I still have a piece of pencil lead in my chest from being stabbed with a #2 pencil in 1958. Amazing how long it has remained in place.

That'll be worse. If you've read "Anne of Green Gables," Anne used a slate as a weapon to crack over a boy's (Gilbert's, who she later married) head.

It proves anything and everything can be used as a weapon.

IIRC, there was a episode of "Welcome Back Kotter" where Epstein wrote, "Self Defense With a Pencil."

I still have one in the inside of my elbow from when I was a kid. Those things are incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands. Anyone over the age of two that has these things should be on the terrorist watch list.

I look at this story, the TSA fiasco, the kid who is told to not fly the flag on his bike, and I realize that we have a serious PC cancer in this country. What worries me is that about a third of GOP has this same cancer, and therefore will be powerless to stop the spread.

And everyone now thinks the 1950s were a peaceful time.

It's not everyday when you hear about stunts considered too stupid for even public schools....

A boy in my 5th grade class stabbed a #2 pencil into
the back of another boy’s hand. It definitetly an
intentional attack with lots of blood. The boy, Archie,
was removed from the classroom and never seen
again. His fraternal twin sister left for good a week
later. Anything has the potential to be used as a
weapon. Sometimes a pencil is just a pencil. Ditto
for knives, guns, baseball bats.
