“The best protection of real marriage would be to get the government out of the business of defining and recognizing it.”

Yup. The sooner folks realize that a piece of paper from the gubberment doesn’t necessarily make anyone married and start looking to their faith, the better off the institution will be in my opinion.

Not surprising but sad. My ex-wife moved out last year on thanksgiving, very different for the kids and rest of the family.

>>My wife would disagree but I can see why men would not want to marry, what with lawyers and judges cutting you nutz off with a rusty butterknife in any divorce hearing.<<

Exactly. See my post 34.

Roughly 80% of divorces are started by the woman. And no, it is not because men are philandering scum. My wife thinks Solomon had it right here:

Ecclesiastes 7:28
while I was still searching but not finding— I found one upright man among a thousand, but not one upright woman among them all.

Very sad indeed. I’m sorry. When my mother was talking of divorce (only to screw the government out of money, long story), I was upset beyond belief; crying and carrying on and I was in my 30s. She never went through with it, thank God. I will pray for the possible reconciliation for you ... it happened with a couple of my neighbors ...

rapidly changing notions of the American family

libtards are in favor of the destruction of traditional American values because it helps to promote socialism.

Destruction of marriage, an institution as old as recorded history, is the destruction of society and the country.

Pravda Media is hyping this “study” all over the airwaves today.

The MSM's so brain-dead they think controlling soft drinks with sugar is more important to children than having a father. Idiots. Not even the useful kind...

True. I have a friend in Malta and there are folks there that are now pushing for divorce. I'm praying it won't go through; it would destroy their beautiful country ...

A marriage in the eyes of men is meaningless. A marriage covenant in the eyes of God has meaning. The later is rarely seen today, the former doesn’t matter.

The left has been into, weakening and destroying marriage for decades.

This is more evidence that it’s working.

Sorry folks, but you need the long-term commitment of marriage to give kids the best chance to grow up into good people. First, rescind all no-fault divorce laws.

So he pulled a gun and shot at him. 33 year old - means he was born around 1977. I wonder what his upbringing was like? Single parent? Too many video games? Too much violence on TV?
Well all the things you say can surely figure into his rage. I'm a little older than you and I loved Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons, and so on. But I think the main societal problem today is legalized abortion, starting in 1973. It's so "commonplace," that many probably get through days on end not even thinking about it, but its impact is felt. Mother Teresa predicted this early on when she said ...
The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing between. --Mother Teresa
If we pray down abortion, think of the evil-minded people that will be shut down (quite literally; Planned Parenthood for example).

I would like to see a survey that asks if marriage SHOULD be obsolete.

Marriage will never be obsolete.Just because no one has ever asked you or you were never sucessful at it does not make it obsolete. That is you not the institution.

Government should get out of the “marriage” business and simply issue licenses under whatever neutral wording is most appropriate to describe the contract between two persons which currently falls under the program of incentives and responsibilities that fall under family law.
