One of the goals of communism is to eliminate the family. Communism wants the government to be the only structure that teaches right and wrong.

Government money thru welfare and other government programs have destroyed many families.

The father / husband is less needed as several generations of girls learn that their job is to have babies in order to get government **free** money.

Soon, the ATM government pellet machines will run out of money as the tax payers go John Galt

The amoral, secular media has been working this angle for YEARS.

Look at, for example, the epidemic adultery protrayed, over 35 years ago, in prime time, by the sitcom MASH.

>>Three of 5 people said a same-sex couple with children was a family.<<

Sure it is. Soon we’ll be saying it’s OK to sleep with your sisters. I mean after all they are women aren’t they? They’ve got all the parts and pieces that a man is looking for when he’s in the mood. You aren’t going to marry her which is against the law so everything must be cool, right Dude?

Perverts and deviates need to be taught to commit suicide before they become teenagers.

I glanced over the article, but did not see an answer to this. Did the survey actually ask people “do you think marriage is obsolete?” or is this just the conclusion that was drawn?

“Abortion-on-Demand” and “No-Fault Divorce” are the two most destructive forces brought to bear on American society (actually on all of society) ever. There is no evident respect for life or commitment. If one party to a marriage wants a divorce, there is no reason or cause required. If the other person tries to contest it, it only further profits some lawyer and the result is the same. “Contesting a divorce” can also often result in false criminal charges being brought as leverage. All of it not only helps to destroy society but supports the bottom-feeding lawyers of which we have far too many.

Family Law has made many young men very, very wary of getting hitched. They see what happens in divorce, and it is often very unfair to the father.

Destroy the family. The number one Marxist goal.

There is truth in what you say. I would put it as fear of the restraint imposed by a marital commitment.

The God of Creation established families as the building blocks of a good and just society.

Without families in that role, what will we have??

***Indeed, about 39 percent of Americans said marriage was becoming obsolete.***

Marriage was declared obsolete back in the 1960s when the “communes” and shack-ups were popular. Marriage was just a piece of paper and you didn’t need to be married if you were “sincere”.

Today, marriage is the most important thing people can engage in......BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE GAY!

Hey, if you can sit on your butt and stick your hand out and get free rent, food and money from Uncle Sam, why do you need a husband?

Many years ago it was considered a disgrace to be divorced. They were very hard to come by as you often had to goto trial before a judge to get the divorce.

Reno and Tijuana became popular divorce areas as they were easy to get there. Then came the no-fault divorce and the world changed.

It is dumb for non-religious people to get married, beyond the tax advantages.

No, I need to be more specific: It is dumb for non-religious PRIMARY EARNERS to do it. It is almost guaranteed that your spouse will eventually take you for everything they can.

Without the commitment based on the religious commitment, eventually the other spouse (almost universally the woman) will realize that it’s just “too hard” living with someone else and they can force you out while keeping the kids, the house, and a significant portion of your income.

Heck, that happens a LOT with religious people.

A good take on it here: http://www.equaljustice.ca/cgi-bin/forum.cgi/noframes/read/10729

If I had a nickel for every time a man read that and said “that is how it happened in my case”, I’d be much better off financially.

However, as we are falling into the next depression, there will be (there always is) a religious revival and, of similar significance, the government will not be able to afford to stay in the divorce business, I expect marriage to survive and even flourish again.

I'm surprised that it is this low, considering 50% or so marriages end in divorce.

To be honest, not fighting against easy divorce laws is what hurt the religious/conservative fight against homosex "marriage". When we made marriage nothing more than a "social contract", why can't others have similar "social contracts".

Of course marriage is obsolete as a legal contract. Big Brother pays the mother an allowance and raises the children, while granting all of the historical perks of marriage to everyone.

Truly, if there is no penalty for not getting a license from the state to undertake an activity, why would you???

Marriage as a sacriment however, has not changed. The best protection of real marriage would be to get the government out of the business of defining and recognizing it.

Either that or go back to enforcing penalties for “playing house”.

I think it was the conclusion drawn; either that, or edited out an important paragraph ...

A few weeks ago I spent 10 days in Hungary. I met many young people who were cohabitating, but not married.

When I asked them if they had any intention to get married, they would unanimously say “no” because there were only disadvantages to it.

Socialism has won in destroying marriage everywhere except in a few pockets around the world.

When marriage is considered by many to be merely a lousy gubberment defined contract that can be broken and resumed as long as the state says so, folks aren’t going to respect it.
