Prince William was involved in a helicopter rescue mission on Mount Snowdon just 48 hours after announcing his engagement to Kate Middleton, it was revealed today.
The search and rescue pilot was part of a four-man crew on board an RAF Sea King which was scrambled to help walker Greg Watkins who was stuck 3,000ft (914m) up the mountain in stormy conditions.
The 28-year-old Prince, who is based at RAF Valley in North Wales, was called into action at 1.30pm on Thursday after the father-of-two collapsed with chest pains.
He was winched on board the helicopter before being taken to hospital in Bangor to be treated for a suspected heart attack.
Mr Watkins, who was today recovering after an operation, said the actions of Flight Lieutenant Wales and his crew had saved his life.
He told the Sunday Mirror: 'If it wasn't for him and the rest of his crew, I'd be dead. 'Hearing his helicopter getting nearer and nearer was the best sound I've ever heard. He and his crew saved my life.'
For the last six months, William and his fiancee have lived together in a rented cottage on Anglesey, close to the RAF base, among a close-knit community of service personnel and islanders.
The rescue mission was launched just five hours after the Prince returned to the base following his engagement.

The younger princes apparently get their courage and integrity from the Queen and their mom. It’s certainly has bypassed Charles.
The modern depiction of him in the media has very little to do with what the man is really like.
I’m surprised the poor guy didn’t think he was halucinating about seeing the prince and have another heart attack.
Well, well, well. So, Wills and Kate have been shacking up for the last six months. Didn’t Diana have to have her virginity verified? While I’m sure the palace doctors throughout the centuries have been paid off but I’m surprised Liz allowed the living arrangements.

What’s the matter with you? Haven’t you watched the Tudors????? lol
I appreciate your remembrance. However, is it odd that the he dresses in Muslim refinement and eats Halal? I don’t want to badshot him if it’s not deserved. But I haven’t seen anything that shows me otherwise. What think?
I'm sure the Queen didn't entirely approve, but both she and the Prince of Wales told William that he had to be sure and he had to be sure his prospective fiance was sure, before he proposed and he should take all the time needed until they reached that stage.
And, no, the idea that Diana had to have her virginity verified is a myth. What was important was that nobody could prove she wasn't - she didn't have to prove she was. That is, if a former boyfriend had turned up, that could have stopped the wedding, but she was not required to be tested in anyway.
just think if he was an ambulance driver
Thanks for dropping by and unloading your rectal intelligence.......now move on, this thread isn't for you.
As usual, the criticisms miss the mark. All of the Royal men from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh to HRH Prince Harry have served in uniform. Only one, the Earl of Wessex, has fallen short. Perhaps he would have done better had he picked Queen Alexandra’s Royal Nursing Corps instead of the Royal Marines.
Prince Phillip had a distinguished career of active service in the Royal Navy in WWII. Andrew served as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands and Harry served as with the Royal Gurkha Regiment in Afghanistan. Charles and William as heirs and heirs presumptive have not been allowed to serve in combat zones. But, Charles was a helicopter pilot and commanded a minesweeper. William serves in what in America is the Coast Guard rescue helicopters of A Perfect Storm and Deadliest Catch. They have done their bit.
So, what about our own political leaders? What of their service and that of their children?
It’s not Hastings, but I guess it’s the best modern royalty can manage.
The Prince will also eat halal in circumstances where he is eaten with Muslim guests out of respect for them. In the same way, he keeps kosher if eating with Jewish guests, avoids beef in situations where Hindus are present, etc. I've personally seen him eat a pork sausage (made by his own company, actually, but he'd never do that if he had Muslim guests. He believes in treating peoples beliefs with respect, even when he doesn't share them.
I've known the Prince for over forty years. I've been his friend in more recent times. He's a bit odd in some ways, but overall, he's a good and decent man - and except on the issue of climate change, which he's been interested in and involved in since before it was a political issue - he's overall a conservative. The media doesn't like him partly because of that - so they paint him as a kook - except when it comes to promoting his environmental beliefs which they agree with.
Heh. Prince Charles, the man who aspired to be a tampax, I don’t make this up.
Did you see his interview on 20/20?
He’s such a loser, a nothing burger, a zero. All involved with climate change, organic stuff, grows big carrots.
I think his mother will live to be 105 just so he won’t ever be king.
He was overly ambitious in trying to be a Marine, certainly - but there are plenty of other roles in which he could have served. I spent a lot of my own military career as a teacher. Other periods in protocol. And logistics. It's not the glamorous stuff, but some of us are better suited to that, and a lot of it is important. There's a lot of jobs out there, he could have done - but he did set his sights too high. I think he was badly advised.
I truly despise the British Royalty with the exception of Prince Phillip. They have a long history of cruelty, immorality, and boorish behavior.
The one area I will give them credit for is military service, even bravery.
That's true enough - but if every private conversation you've ever had in your life was completely clean and sensible, you're a better man that I.
Did you see his interview on 20/20?
Probably, but it's among dozens of times, I've heard him speak, and hundreds of his speeches and interviews I've read. I'm lucky enough to know him, so I don't even have to rely solely on what is made public, but even if I did, I wouldn't base things on soundbites in a TV interview.
Hes such a loser, a nothing burger, a zero. All involved with climate change, organic stuff, grows big carrots.
Runs a £650,000,000 pound company - or more accurately a group of companies - that has growing carrots and other organic products as one of its activities, yes. Interested in climate change, yes. Also interested in gun rights, preserving his nations heritage, supporting troops and veterans - quite a few other things actually.
Why thanks so much! I’m sure we all appreciate your input. As for your kindly advice, no thanks.
The Service is quite cruel on such rites of passage. Over half of the U.S. Army officers who go to Ranger School fail to earn the coveted Ranger Tab. Some graduate the course without the distinction of the tab and others return and succeed, but it remains a stain that Infantry officers must endure even though their failure is never made public. I guess when you are famous, anonymity is not possible. Good on him for refusing the honor gratuitously. He probably would have made a fine Infantry officer, although that is clearly not his natural inclination.
