Several Texas conservatives are vowing to make Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) pay for her primary challenge to popular Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
The four-term senator hasnt announced whether shell run for reelection, but, no matter her decision, Tea Party activists are preparing to run their own candidates.
Because of that, GOP activists and strategists suspect retirement will prove the more attractive option for the senator.
Hutchison lost a contentious primary to Perry in March, and her decision to challenge the sitting governor saw her go from one of the states most popular politicians to someone struggling for favor within her own party.
Austin-based Tea Party activist Dean Wright said he anticipates as many as six to eight candidates challenging Hutchison from the right if she attempts to stick it out in 2012.
Shes burned some bridges, Wright said. And she hasnt embraced the grassroots.
When asked for comment, Hutchisons office only said: The senator has not yet announced her plans.
In the gubernatorial primary, one of Perrys most effective tactics was to paint Hutchison as too far to the left for the Texas GOP. Her vote in favor of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) proved Perrys trump card. His campaign tagged the senator with the moniker Kay Bailout Hutchison and successfully branded her as a Washington insider. She lost by more than 20 points.

Hutchison is a whore for the illegals that are ruining this state.
She should retire, move to the Valley and learn Spanish. Maybe she can drive a coyote truck. That should suit her.
I read, about a year ago, that she announced that she won’t run, in 2012.
Kay Bailey, Cornyn and Rick Perry are all open-border RINOs.
49% of GOP primary voters voted for someone other than Perry. For an incumbent, that's pitiful.
UHHH..... we need to target Cornyn too, IMHO.
“Tea Party activists are preparing to run their own candidates.”
Might I suggest one Ted Nugent?
Both Hutchison and Cornyn have got to go. I don’t think Cornyn is up until 2014 and I would imagine he’ll try to steer right over the next years as he can read the handwriting.
Shame that such a red state has two jokes in the Senate.
They should make her pay for revoking the funds for the border fence. That was a RINO in action.
That’s right,
Ole Ted moved from a bankrupt Michigan.
Better deer hunting in Texas anyway.
I would love to see him run. Just finishing his book: Ted White and Blue. Nothing in there I am against!
Not quite.
Originally she announced she would resign from the Senate to run for Governor ... but then kept pushing the resignation date further and further back, until she lost the primary and refused to recommit to resignation - or retirement.
This isn’t about her opposing Gov. ‘Good-Hair’. Kay-Bailey is a flaming RINO and an illegal/amnesty kiss-ass, and has been for years. Both she and Cornyn are on the chopping block with us around here, but I don’t think Cornyn is up for re-election until 2014.
Nugent has lived in Illinois (my state) and Michigan. I hope that he’ll run for the U.S. Senate or House, from one of those states.
KBH was recently on the fence with DREAM Act Nightmare!
Just the line “four-term Senator” should make Texans scramble to get new blood. No one is immune to Potomac poisoning after being exposed to Washington for that long.
First, nobody should be “targetting” KBH.
There will be some other folks running for Senate, and KBH invited that with her
Second, forget 2012 for now.
We need to get a Conservative Speaker in the Texas House. Don’t let this be a distraction from today’s priority.
Agreed, but Cornyn's 4 years away from his bid. Hutchison, only 2; she's the impending target.
>> I would imagine hell try to steer right over the next years as he can read the handwriting.
I wish he’d start steering right already!
I’m afraid that all Cornyn will do is, six months before the election dust off that big white cowboy hat, borrow a horse, and make some more “tall in the saddle conservative” commercials. IMHO Cornyn is the biggest phony conservative in the entire Senate.
I hope she doesn’t run again.
