WASHINGTON—The U.S. economy added fewer jobs than expected in November and the unemployment rate rose to its highest level since April, underlining the continued weakness in the labor market 17 months into the recovery.

Nonfarm payrolls rose by 39,000 last month as private-sector employers added only 50,000 jobs, the Labor Department said Friday. The October number was revised up slightly to show a 172,000 increase from a previous estimate of 151,000.

The unemployment rate, which is obtained from a separate household survey, unexpectedly rose to 9.8% last month. More than 15 million people who would like to work can't get a job.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast payrolls would rise by 144,000 and that the jobless rate would remain unchanged at 9.6%.

They just sentenced a postal worker to 14 (?) years for stealing over $80,000 in the mail he was supposed to deliver

But a pittance next to what Rangler Charli and Chrissy Dodd have stolen

It’s a recovery from from the recession that ended.

During the recession the GDP contracted. After the contraction was over, the GDP began to expand. Hence the term recovery.

The economy can still grow (albeit weakly) and you can still have rising jobless rates or anemic expansion in job totals.

An analogy:

You run a business with 100 workers. Things do well for 7 fat years. Then for whatever reason, sales decline and profits shrink — or you even lose money.

So you lay off 10 percent of your workers. Now you’re turning a profit but sales have yet to improve.

After about six months to 18 months or so with 90 employees, your sales rise and you’re back in the black.

So you have to run longer shifts to meet demand. Rather than hire people, you pay existing workers more overtime, more bonuses, etc. But you still have 90 employees. Or put another way, your unemployment rate, compared to the optimal number of workers you have recently, is 10 percent.

Your business has improved. Your sales are up. Profits are better. But you still have a workforce that remains 10 percent smaller than it was two years ago.

Well, the Feds secretly bailed out a bunch of car makers, etc. They do what they want and usually get away with it.

We don’t know where a fraction of the stimulous money went.
In a lot of pockets I’m sure.

Charlie Rangel, crying and whining and still believing he did nothing wrong! There’s something wrong with those people, they don’t know right from wrong anymore.

Unexpected. Again.

And just wait 3 weeks or so when they come out with the revised statistics - it'll be worse ...

Rush sez not to look at the initial report - wait for the revised report ... has always been worse since Feb. 2009.

How do you starve a liberal? Hide their food stamps under their work boots.

Liberals have work boots?

Who knew?

The FED gave money to a Korean car maker

Rush was hot after learning the immensely huge amounts the FED secretly gave in alleged “loans” to several US banks, Goldman Sachs, and Bears-Stern (which went bankrupt and will never pay it back)

The FED also gave a huge amount to a city in CT

Rush said he never thought of calling up the FED and asking for a loan!

Wish I could remember half of what all I read. Frankly it just gets upsetting when there's nothing you can do. Just reading all of Drudge Report headlines is enough to ruin your day, every day!

They've frittered our money away everywhere and anywhere they please.

I knew that about the nonexistent cities. Boggling, isn't it. Long back there were people questioning some stimulus grants in cities around me. Questioning how it was being used, etc, but it never ever gets fully explained.

I understand that during a healthy economy we see perhaps 300,000 new jobless claims each week. We also see 300,000+ new jobs added during those periods.

Right now we’re seeing 50,000 new jobs while seeing 1.6 million plus file new claims.

Where you’re losing me is when you reference part of this 1.6 million returning to work. During the month of November, wouldn’t those have been counted in the 50,000 new jobs created?

Not trying to be argumentative here, but it seems like you’re inferring more new or replacement jobs that aren’t revealed in the numbers.

If it is true that some of those 1.6 million new filers will have found new jobs by the end of the month, why are they not counted in the 50,000? If they are, then we’ve still got a net job loss of 1.55 million plus for the month. If they aren’t, why?

Well I just can't understand how they can do that. Surely there is some way of validating that they can and will farm, or that they ‘did’ farm, etc.

I've never received a government give away with no strings attached, but I'm not a minority.

Not cities - districts -

Phoney District Numbers

Billions of stimulous money somehow sent to somebody in imaginary shovel-ready projects in imaginary Congressional Districts
Our Federal Judicial system and US DOJ is a joke

Majorities in Congress are a joke

No oversight

No hearings

Just more spending

Just more taxes

0panzi is a shovel-ready prostitute

Even Charles Barkley says “Bench-Sitter Bama” can only go to the left -

Sarah Palin won the AK State Girl’s BB Championship Game with 1 final shot - after playing fierce defense and passing the BB of to open players instead of hogging the ball and shooting herself

0pansy sat on the bench in HS and never played college BB

I think we should have sent our imaginary money to imaginary IRS addresses and taken swell vacation in undisclosed spots in Hawaii and the Dominican Republic -

Yeah, I knew it was nonexistent districts but was thinking ahead to what I wrote about my local cities and what they got.

Lol, you always love that basketball comparison. Obama was busy learning the mob-method of winning.

All that money gone and I don't know if it has helped a bit.

They claimed they were denied loans to be able to farm -

Looks like no proof or evidence was required - no farm - no experience - no loan application - no rejection documents

Reparations 101

Divide over 2 billion dollars by 80,000 fake farmers

80,000)$2,000,000,000 = ?

A piece of the action!
