Saudi king to undergo further surgery in New York

Saudi King Abdullah, 86, will undergo more surgery on his back in the United States Friday, nine days after his first operation to fix a herniated disc.

7:00AM GMT 03 Dec 2010

"King Abdullah will return for surgery to repair several vertebrae in his spine in a follow-up to his previous treatment.... in accordance with the plan set by his medical team," the court said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

The king flew to New York City on Nov 22 and was operated on two days later at New York Presbyterian Hospital for a debilitating herniated disc complicated by a haematoma that put pressure on his spine.

The court had said that the first operation was a success and that the king walked on his own inside the hospital shortly afterwards.

But the combination of his age and the rare announcement that he needed to be hospitalised in the United States sparked widespread concern about the future of the leadership of the world's most important source of oil and a key player in Middle East politics.

For our bowing President:"May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership." (Psalm 109:8)

This is the guy who took over an entire hospital wing, forcing the patients to leave their rooms so his filthy carcass could occupy it. Probably had his harem with him too.

Wonder why this king didn’t go to another country? Could it be the socialized medical care else where is that lousy?

I’ve read that the King’s brother is either next up, or really wants to be, and he’s even more intolerant than the schmuck in the hospital

Is it too much to ask for an accidental release of a MOAB over the palaces of Riyadh and Tehran?

The guy's 86 years old. The surgery, or recovery from same, is likely to kill the old guy.

Won't that make for an interesting transfer of power back home?

“The King has taken the entire luxury treatment wing and booked out all the rooms, even though they are empty and he doesn’t need them, to protect his privacy,” said a family member of one patient.

“Patients are grumbling that they have been moved out to other areas of the hospital, and that despite there being a number of unused VIP treatment rooms, they can’t be moved into them because they are all reserved for the king of Saudi Arabia,” he added.

Nice.

Pandering to Wahhabist murderers in our own country at the expense of our own people.

In 1776 there would have been a revolution.

Today there is.............apathy and ignorance. Too much superbowl and reality TV and computer games for the well-fed masses.

The Economist had a nice piece on some of the succession issues and personalities in play in Saud right now.

All putative successors are sickly geezers, pretty much.

The younger Princelings, 50+, the unknown factors.....
