Sorry guys; I don’t think this is a liberal “feel good” program at all, but is actually an excellent feature to have. Once you use this thing for a few weeks, you rely on it heavily and will not want a car without one.
I don’t know how other mfrs. sell the camera, but Ford combines it into something called a “Driver’s Vision Package”, so an alarm goes off, as well, if something is nearby when the driver is backing up the car.
People in our society today are increasingly clueless and distracted (by I-pods, etc.) so this type of technology is a good counter to that. True, safe drivers shouldn’t have to purchase something because dolts are not paying attention, but I’m sure we’d all feel horrible if we hit someone, their fault or not.
Bottom line, this system is excellent.
So, I should be forced to have it? I mean whats next?
So what. You like it, you pay for it. I don’t want it. Never had a back up accident. Don’t want your socialist enforced purchase. GTH.
DITTO with built in seat heaters.
And you think another bit of technology is going to change that?
They'll now be distracted from actually looking around, and the complaint will be "it wasn't in the view of the camera".
This is just another technological distraction. It might be useful for panel vans and other vehicles with obstructed views, but will be a detriment on hatchbacks and snall cars that have pretty good visibility, if you actually take time to make use of it.

Sounds like a wondertful idea to me because I don't want an uninsured and unlicensed driver hitting me. What say you?
