Israel Snubs F-35 Peace Offering
Posted by Robert Wall at 12/8/2010 5:24 AM CST
The Israeli government has spurned U.S. requests for a new moratorium of new Jewish settlements in Palestinian territories.
The U.S. was pushing hard to get Israel to agree to a new stoppage of construction in the hope of reviving stalled peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators. One of the biggest carrots Washington was dangling was the promise to give Israel 20 more F-35s.
Israel had long planned to buy 40 F-35s, but has committed only to taking 20 because of cost. A senior military official told Aviation Week when the offer was first made that it was a deal we cannot refuse.
In the end, prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided it was an offer he could not accept.
When Israel agreed to buy the F-35I, Washington also pledged the country would have the ability to quickly adjust electronic warfare equipment and install its own weapons weapons and some other equipment on the stealth fighter. In light of the latest developments, should Washington reconsider that position?

V-E-R-Y Tempting indeed but the Obama administration started off on the LEFT foot with the Israelis (as he has done with MANY of America's allies).
President Obama’s agenda is clearly to weaken Israel, even by dangling such a nice set of hi-tech toys all the while selling America's enemy - Saudi Arabia the greatest arms deal ever assembled. Is this how America promises to maintain the strategic edge for Israel over her increasingly powerfull enemies? Please don't build Jewish homes in East Jerusalem? Is that all? Such a simple request right? We know this deal is a sham to shore up favor to the Arabs, the Jewish American community and Lefties everywhere, including the Palis.
Israel bent over countless times to passing American administrations and all she got for it was DEAD JEWS. Since 1993 Oslo agreements, the Israelis showed tremendous flexibility and acts AGAINST HER NATIONAL interest. Now, 15 years and a thousand dead innocent Israelis, the carrot is being waved again. How many more Jews must be murdered before a REAL carrot is waved in front of the Israelis? Namely, asking the Palis to COMPROMISE ON ANY ISSUE!

Why would Obama think that Netanyahu would cede part of his country for F-35s when it was Israeli research and development that created the technology for them?

Good. Several billion dollars worth of airplanes in exchange for a few months freeze on settlements was a sucker deal to begin with.

I think you will find the video of a speech made by Pastor John Hagee quite sobering and informative regarding Israel and the threat of Islam to Israel and the USA. Please watch and share with others.

Thanks sukhoi-30mki.
One of the comments on the original notes that delivery of the planes wouldn’t begin until 2019 — “one to three presidents” down the road, plus how many congresses? Nothing to show for it until then (and probably thereafter) except more rocket attacks, more suicide bombers, and demands for even more concessions.
Bibi stuck it right up Zero’s ass, which is where it needs to stay.
Author of the piece has a question that fits my snap judgement drawn when I saw the title of the article — “Israel Snubs F-35 Peace Offering”, ridiculous.

Like they would. Those people aren’t but a pack of animals with single focus, and compromise isn’t their focus.

Israeli R&D helped create these aircraft? I know the Lavi was going to outperform the F-16 in the late 1980’s but while I know the Israelis have the brainpower they lack the massive funding.

Then I suggest you do a little research and find out who produces the technology through their research and development centers in Israel for the majority of our advanced weaponry.

Israel buying 20 F-35’s three years down the line through Obama would have them more tied up than the evil tree that always ate Charlie Browns kite*sigh* and Good Grief.

I left out the fact that I thought it was Israel that was being suckered once again if they had not refused the deal.
It's refreshing to see what I hope is a new found hope and slight turning to faith and dependence in the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob and less on the bruised reed of the U.S. the modern day Egypt. 2 Kings 18:21.
To see what happens when Israel trusts in Jehovah see 2 Kings 19:32-37.

I know that Israel has its own R&D facilities that eventually get implemented into many avionic, tanktonic and naval applications but you're saying Israel carries the weight for US R&D in these areas? I know they (the Israelis) have a lot of combat proven systems and experience and developmental systems and some amazing breakthroughs but I don't see what you're getting at. You mean Rafael, IAI, Elbit, etc., are responsible for the bulk of US tech applications, as if to say the US cannot manufacture similar systems?
