Good Grief. The U.S. Department of Education needs to be defunded and closed down. Churches ran hospitals just fine until government began funding them in the form of payments for services then tried to take their church based missions from them. The federal government's also well on it's way to destroying education as well. What do they want? Catholic students to downgrade their education and values to that of public universities? All church based colleges and universities better unite on this one fast.

This is one reason I did not support faith based initiatives with government funding. What Uncle funds Uncle eventually rules and ruins.

I agree with you 100%. The solution to this isn't to "get the government off the backs of the Catholic colleges," it's to get the government the hell out of the business of funding these things in the first place.

How quickly we forget that Catholic elementary school systems were originally set up in this country back in the 19th Century -- as a mechanism for educating Catholic children outside the dominant Protestant culture in this country at the time.
