Lisa Murkowski goes rogue - article Dubs her "New Maverick" in the Senate
Politico.com ^ | December 23, 2010 | Meredith Shiner

Lisa Murkowski isn’t gunning down caribou on national TV like that other famous Alaskan, but the Republican lawmaker is going rogue in the Senate just weeks after staging the most stunning back-from-the-dead political win of the 2010 cycle.

Murkowski is already showing a fierce independent streak, becoming the only Republican to cast votes for all four items on President Barack Obama’s wish list: a repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” a tax cut compromise, the START treaty and cloture for the DREAM Act.

The lame duck votes capped a strange political odyssey for the Alaska Republican — one that started Aug. 31 when she conceded the GOP primary to tea party-backed Joe Miller, continued when she resigned her leadership job in September and ended when she waged Alaska’s first successful statewide write-in bid to retain her seat.

Now, she heads back to the Senate with a fresh six-year term without owing much to either her home state party establishment or her Washington leadership.

Murkowski’s willingness to defy Republican top brass after a bitter fight to keep her seat may mark a pivot point in her career as she emerges as a real maverick foil to Sarah Palin, the conservative idol who put Alaska politics on the national map. And while conservatives who helped oust Murkowski from the GOP ticket in Alaska may howl about her being a “Republican In Name Only,” Murkowski could enjoy a powerful perch as a much-sought-after moderate in an almost evenly divided Senate.

“She's a person who makes up her own mind, does what she thinks is right and always keeps the concerns of her state at the forefront,” moderate Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told POLITICO of Murkowski, adding that the Alaskan was an important ally in helping to overturn DADT.

According to a chart on another thread, so did Snowe, Collins, Brown, and Voinevich.

Brown was a No on DREAM Act, and so was Voinovich.

Lisa needs to make sure she visits her constituents in the more remote areas of her state. Make sure she gets there by small aircraft. I understand the weather changes very quickly over those mountains...

Translation:

Poor loser scams the system and steals election. Alaska gets Democrat Senator who promises to consistently vote socialist.

Eskimos (er, Inuits) who spent the last six months learning how to spell M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I (or anything remotely close to that, thank you Alaska Supreme Court) guess your Igloos will be warm for the winter. Not sure that's necessarily a good thing. My only question is, and can Inuit casinos be far behind?

Why is it that when a Republican goes all out to vote with the DemonRATs, the press calls them “independent” and “maverick”, rather than TREACHEROUS and BACKSTABBING.”
__________________________________________________________

Beautiful point! One the Republicans should pick up at all levels; Congress, RNC, etc., and run with. Such clarity needs to be borrowed and used over and over for the next two years.

BTW, Republicans need to wise up to Lisa and come down on her hard. No favors, no re-election cash, but a healthy shunning is in order. Lisa needs to experience that bad behavior deserves consequences, sufficient to cause regret.

We now have the numbers to fight back...finally...if we will.

In the next election, it’s time to go after Susan Collins and Lindsey Graham. Until we purge the GOP from from these extreme liberals, we are in danger of losing the GOP to the leftists.

A snippet from page one of that article:

Murkowski declined to be interviewed for this story — and Alaskan officials have not yet certified her election because of pending suits from Miller. Randy DeSoto, a Miller spokesman, criticized Murkowski’s lame-duck votes in a statement to POLITICO.

Any possibility they DON’T certify her as winner, he wonders out loud? :)

I would not wish her to take upon herself such a humble visage, why it would tear the very fabric of time and space!

She should travel by a penguin powered sled team instead.

Imagine a TV show on “Lisa Murkowsi’s Alaska”. Whole villages living on government welfare checks, and fighting to keep it that way.

The Republicans should refuse to allow this treacherous, backstabbing, self-serving strumpet to caucus with them.

Force the creep to caucus with the DemonRATs.

Murkowski, like the Senate Republicans, is getting her revenge on the Tea Party. She has also additional grudges against the Republicans.

Murkowski and the Republicans in the Senate have given the kenyan more of the destruction of the Republic than LBJ achieved, perhaps more than FDR. Those two built socialist structures alongside the free economy. The kenyan and his Republicans have actually destroyed large chunks of the Freemarket economy, with the bailouts and their included medical changes and obamacare with its economic changes. A hammer has been taken to the military and to nuclear defense.

I blame this on the Republicans because the Democrats were just doing what Democrats do. We knew what to expect of them. The Republicans generously provided the victory the Democrats should not have had.

Wrong. When the Republican Senate leadership decided to NOT strip her of her committee assignments after she filed as a write-in, they enabled her to campaign on the fact she had seniority that could give Alaskans an advantage. That got her a lot of votes.

So, she owes the Republican Senate leadership big time.

Lisa Murkowski is for all practical purposes a Democrat low life. So what else is new? Here’s what’s new!!! The Republicans in Alaska are left out in the cold because Ms. Murkowski owes her election to the Democrat voters in Alaska who are a politically minority in that state. They deserve what they voted for, the idiots. She has no loyalty to Republicans of any political stripe. At the end of the day she will fall just as Arlen Spector & Bob Bennet did. She thinks she is being “cute” now, but her world will change come January 5th when hanging with the Democrat vermin who will have been severely diminished in power will surface and she will be hanging out alone just like Arlen Spector was hung out to dry. I cannot believe these RINOs are that stupid, but they are. And....if you think Politico has its hand on the pulse of politics, forget it. They don’t have a clue!!! Remember, folks, November 2, 2010 was just the preamble to the attack that is coming against these America Destroyers, POTUS Barack Hussein Obama, his Democrat vermin and the RINO buffoons!!! And....if you are fool enough to believe the mainstream media spin about the political comeback of Obama, think again. None of the bills passed in the “lame duck” session are of long standing consequence other the Bush tax cut extension. The only thing that will get Obama re-elected is if the economy turns around and the unemployment goes down to 5-6% by November, 2012. So all the tooting of horns for Mr. Obama ain’t worth the breath it took to blow his comeback horn. I predicted what happened in November, 2010 long before it was in fachion to do so. And....I am right on this one too, no matter how much the Obama poll numbers go up.

Instead of “the new maverick” I would call her one incredibly vindictive individual who is trying to teach the conservative Republicans a lesson. JMHO
