Republicans Aim to Block FCC's New Internet Rules Before They Go Into Effect
Fox News ^ | December 22, 201 | Stephen Clark

The Federal Communications Commission this week adopted a plan to police the web, but it will take at least a couple of months to implement the new rules – a procedural delay that could benefit Republican critics in Congress who are determined to erect a blockade.
...
"This vote is an unprecedented power-grab by the unelected members of the Federal Communications Commission, spearheaded by Chairman Genachowski," Hutchison said in a statement, referring to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowksi. "The FCC is attempting to push excessive government regulation of the Internet through without congressional authority and these actions threaten the very future of the technology."
....
[Paul] Gallant issued a report in which he said a legislative reversal of the FCC rules is "unlikely" because a divided Congress would almost certainly not be able to overcome a presidential veto. But Gallant said a legal challenge posed a more serious risk, citing concerns from commissioners in both political parties. "So there is clearly some risk that yesterday's ruling will ultimately be overturned in court, although the final outcome may not be known for several years," he wrote.

I doubt that Republicans are capable of blocking anything. With 11 or 12 liberal Republicans siding with the Democrats no conservative oriented legislation will see the light of day. I hate sounding pessamistic but it’s a fact...

They were also going to filibuster DADT, and the Start treaty. I have lost all confidence in them.

What would be required for these three FCC members to be held in contempt (of court, of course. Already held in contempt...)?

"The FCC is attempting to push excessive government regulation of the Internet through without congressional authority...

This is the same exact thing the FCC did when cellular was initially being deployed. The FCC's idiocy, incompetency and inaction delayed the switch to digital cellular in this country by almost ten years. Nothing good will come of this, I assure everyone. I have a lot of first hand experience dealing with the FCC clowns and it ain't pretty. I have yet to talk to anyone at the FCC who remotely understands the technology.

Even though I fully realize the news media has become nothing more than an organ of the state, still it amazes me how quiet they've has been about this.

This was an epic power grab by the FCC.

At the very least, the State Run Media could have done a victory lap or two! I mean, if I've got you by the balls, I'm at LEAST going to laugh in your face!

The federal courts ruled this past April that the FCC has no jurisdiction over the ISPs.

If congress doesn't overturn the new rules, the courts will.

That may take years. The shutdown of dissenting voices is scheduled for early 2012, at the latest.

Defund the FCC!!

If you defund the FCC, how will they protect the children from pornography on TV in prime time! Surely, you don't think that's the parents' responsibility.

Seriously. Defunding and abolishing the FCC is the way to go. It has been used over and over as a tool of tyranny. It's supposed "legitimate" purpose is garbage as well. Why is the government needed to license things discovered in nature? The regulation of the airwaves, as far as I can figure, stagnated innovation.

Don't lose hope. There are Democrats willing to cross over, too.
